>Let's go on a journey to the mysterious centre of the earth
>Whoops, gotta take a shit
so many fantasy advertures 100% skip all practicalities like dealing with basic bodily functions without access to modern 1st world infrastructure and services that simply including a pooping scene is fresh and interesting
then again mia isn't focused on it, like whod take women to abyss and then have to deal with periods and them getting pregnant since the men in the posse fuck them
>>280291285>take women to abyss and then have to deal with periods and them getting pregnantI mean, that is the backstory of a main character in this story.
>>280291249 (OP)This anime could've been so kino if the author wasn't a literal shit-eating pedophile. What's the narrative reasoning for the characters being infantile blobs btw?
>>280291426reg is a robot and nanachi has the brain of a 20y+ old so she has tact to shit in the bushes when appropriate
rikos pet hamster pooping is a recurring feature
>>280291426Canonically riko has frequent diarrhea from eating strange foods
reg is a robot nanachi has a pajeet tier diet and so doesn't get sick
>>280291285When one of those pooping scenes involve a 12 year old girl getting her butthole licked by a sentient toilet, then itโs normal to question the necessity of it.
>>280291490You can question it all you want but must eventually accept that the answer is yes it is necessary.
>>280291490>uhh why doesn't this village made out of a little girl have regular toilets
When I was a kid, I used to go innawoods with my cousin, and me and her used to piss and poop together communally. I used to enjoy looking at her steaming excrement, and the darkening of the tree barks because it had our urine on it. Made in Abyss has a childlike approach towards its curiosity towards the urinary and digestive systems, and how it portrays it with a sense of wonder, instead of as something shameful/humourful. I miss my childhood, I miss being a kid, and all the wonderful experiences of youth with my love ones.
>>280291490I think the scene works because it is something that Riko would be curious about, and try it itself. It wouldn't work with just a random kid.
>>280291547Necessary for the author to jack off to that is
>>280291426She has gastrointestinal problems
>>280291490Iโm questioning why more anime donโt have similar scenes.
>>280291490The only question I have is why Reg didnโt get his own scene with that toilet.

Reg should be the one licking Riko's butthole.

>>280296648Canon Riko x Reg sex would be amazing. It would be as intense and passionate as it is romantic.
>>280291285>>280291249 (OP)One of my favorite parts of Made In Abyss is just that. Mundane things like taking a bath or taking a shit or cooking a meal or setting up camp to sleep are given more focus than they would in your typical "adventure" story. I like that Tsucc thinks to include stuff like that. It really feels like every step matters.
>>280291426It's that she poops a lot. It's how she poops. She poops very loudly and explosively without a care in the world for the all the violent messy noises she makes. She doesn't hold back. Even if she tries, she can't. She's got a bazooka for a butthole.
>>280291249 (OP)Realistic, relatable, and cinematic.
>>280295896I don't think people allow him around children
>>280296636I'll be that guy:
The sexual part is necessary and I think you misundestand art if you don't know why. Tsucc is not just using the story as a vehicle to get away with the fetish stuff, and he's not just inserting it willy-nilly either. He is writing a story that is well and truly born from the world of his imaginations, and that includes his libido. You're mistaken and do not get how shit works if you think there would or even could *be* a Made In Abyss without the weird stuff. Additionally, there is thematic or storytelling justification for virtually all of the ecchi scenes. Yes, even the toilet. Not only would a neutered MIA not be MIA, it wouldn't be a thing at all. The stylus never would have touched the tablet, and again, you don't get it if you're honestly thinking, "Gee, this *could* be good with a few tweaks/cuts." Believe me, Kinema Citrus cut enough.
Going further, Reg x Riko is really no worse than watching something like Moonrise Kingdom and you might genuinely be bitter if their innocent romance disturbs you.
Going even further, I think the whole "story as an excuse to showcase his fetishes" accusation is a pretty shitty way to say, "uses shape language informed by his own aesthetic preferences to create something uniquely his own."
Fuck off.
>>280291769The series as a whole only exists for the author to jack off to in the first place, that scene is not an exception.

The stylus has to touch the tablet if the owner of the stylus and tablet wants to be able to pay for rent and food.

In the Japanese mind, they think "Yeah, he's a pedophile but only acting on it would be bad, and actually he genuinely LOVES children and that's sweet".

>>280301827I love Made In Abyss!
>>280302232>dark fairy taleActually probably the most apt description of MIA I've seen. At one point Riko is effectively brought back to life with a kiss, and she's bleeding from every hole in her body when it happens. That sort of juxtaposition is precisely correct. Good post, I like how you worded it.
>>280299548Diarrhea is so gross and silly that it seems absurd to put in a story, but it's very realistic, since in real life adventurers and armies have been merced by diarrhea, especially in Africa. It's a fantastical story, but it's naturalistic in terms of human fraility. It doesn't reserve human fraility for dramatic things like stylized violence, as in other shows. Though it also has violence and gore, it allows the more pathetic kinds of human fraility to be shown too.
>>280301827And it tops sales on Amazon every time
Pedochads in control
>>280302752Yeah, and what's wild is that Tsucc *does* foreshadow the diarrhea as being what wiped out the Ganja squad throughout layer 6 and the village arc.
>Meinya shits in the elevator to layer 6>Riko has to take a fat dump in the elevator too>there's a fucking turd on the ground when Riko lays down to pantomime sleeping>Riko gets indigestion from the village's local cuisine and spends the day on the pot shitting her brains out, pretty sure this actually plays a role in separating the party>Riko actually flashes back to Jiruo's lessons post-diarrhea and even thinks to rehydrate because, incidentally, explorers can actually *die* from getting the runsAnd sure enough, the Ganja squad basically got party-wiped by diarrhea and dehydration. There was legit a reason for him having Riko shit her brains out and think, "I'd better drink some water, explorers can die from diarrhea." Bro Chekhov's Gun'd a bowel movement.
If you think about it, he sorta did the same thing with the baby-eating, too. The party eats those weird wriggling fetus things from the eggs around the time they encounter the Iron Rain. Already putting the idea off eggs and of eating infants/young into your head, and subtly, through that imagery. That whole eating-the-fetuses-out-of-the-eggs thing was foreshadowing paralleling what happened with Irumyuui and the wish-granting eggs. It wasn't "oh, look how gross this stuff they're eating is."
Half the time I see these "what was the purpose of X" posts in Made In Abyss threads I don't even want to honor them with a response because the response kinds necessitates a spoilery thematic analysis of a whole fucking arc bound up with whst *should* be Media Literacy 101, and frankly because I deadass think people aren't always asking in earnest.
>>280303503You unironically need a very high IQ to truly appreciate Made in Abyss and this is evident by so many viewers missing these things and then getting mad, or maybe you could say that you need to not have your intelligence impaired by your outrage/disgust to enjoy Made in Abyss.
>>280297945>and again, you don't get it if you're honestly thinking, "Gee, this *could* be good with a few tweaks/cuts." Believe me, Kinema Citrus cut enough. >You're wrong, please believe me! Also fuck off!Listen, I don't know if Tsukushi only gets out of bed when the editors promise him another undiluted molestation scene. Maybe that's the case. Doesn't mean it's above criticism. Doesn't mean it elevates the story simply because it's in line with the theme of child exploitation, and frankly, it isn't. It's like a movie about the horrors of war occasionally trying to make killing really, really cool. It fucks with the theme.
I also never said anything about Reg x Riko. Stop strawmanning.
>>280291285I mean, I agree, but the nudity and shitting scenes in MIA aren't meant to show us how difficult it is to perform basic necessities in the abyss, they're just tsukushi's undisguised fetish.

>>280298536>>280302125I'm just saying, in a less lucky timeline, there could have been a neutered MiA.
Saying that it could never happen, that Tsukushi would sooner die than omit any fetish from the manga, is foolish.
By Tsukushi's sacred authorial vision, Nanachi was supposed to die in the Idofront battle.
>>280304079If anything I'd say MIA is the bell curve meme. You have the absolute normiest of normies who would watch it because it has Studio Ghibli staff or because something like Crunchyroll's Anime of the Year or Toonami shilled it or because Riko uoooohhh, right? And then you have fans who legit appreciate the amazing thing it really is as a work of art and a cultural phenomenon on a deeper level and who sperg out HARD over it.
>>280304548>Doesn't mean it elevates the story simply because it's in line with the theme of child exploitation, and frankly, it isn't. It's like a movie about the horrors of war occasionally trying to make killing really, really cool. It fucks with the theme.I'm not even going with the misplaced "the lolisho stuff fits with the themes of child exploitation" argument I see so often in defense of it. I don't think Tsucc flopped Riko's titty out for a single panel because pedoshit can somehow be thematically bound up with Bondrewd kidnapping orphans or Belchero not having OSHA compliance. I'm not that naive. The man is a lolicon, and certain scenes, particularly in the manga, probably are meant to be titillating.
I'm saying the libido is a good thing in and of itself. I think that drawing is probably a masturbatory/tactile process for him, that it's probably why he doesn't particularly like drawing old dudes, and that it translates to things like stone surfaces and tummies and tufts of fur or grass feeling touchable. Apart from the motivation factor of getting Tsucc out of bed, I don't think the art would be the same without his horny. I think the shape language of it is sublimated horny to a nonzero degree and that the absence of that would make every shot less expressive.
I also think that something can be weird and also serve storytelling purposes.
>>280305116Also, yeah, this. The skinship of Made In Abyss is something I've wanted to give some serious thought on its own because it's super-prevalent. It's a primary mechanic of advancement, even. There's so much hugging.
>Riko hugging Reg being the primary mechanic for them rappelling down>Nanachi's hug calming down berserk-mode Reg during the fight at Idofront >Reg hugging Nanachi after using the incinerator on Mitty>Riko sleeping on Reg's warm tummy>Reg snuggling Nanachi's fluffy tail in their sleep>the fact that you're even told what characters *smell* like up-close and it's not even always pleasant (Riko still smelling like vomit after she throws up, Maa smelling a little bit like poop, etc.)>all the hand-holdingI really do love how... Touchy, it is, as weird as that probably comes across.
This thread convinced me to finally start reading MiA. Dark fairy tale by an unabashedly weird author sounds right up my alley. How faithful is the anime adaptation?
>>280305513Very, here's the watching order
>Season 1 (there are two compilation movies if you prefer)>Dawn of the Deep Soul (MANDATORY, don't pull a Kojima and skip it. MANDATORY)>Season 2Then you enjoy the eternal waiting.
>>280305131Well, whether or not you're going with that specific argument, child exploitation's still a major theme in Made in Abyss. Orphaned children are routinely sent into an eldritch pit for profit. When they misbehave, they're subjected to BDSM bullshit by their sadistic headmistress. The theme's impossible to overlook, and can't simply be set aside whenever Tsukushi decides it's actually fine and kinda funny for Riko to get rimmed by a transmogrified sex offender.
Maybe you're right and the whole thing does serve his storytelling purposes, but it also hamstrings his storytelling.
>>280305513It is legitimately a very good adaptation that is very respectful towards its source material, and the OST is incredible and elevates it significantly.
That said, some things are cut (mostly supplemental stuff about what characters on the surface are up to), there is a change made to a creature encounter on Layer 3, and the intro arc is ordered a little differently from how it's presented in the manga. Also the anime does not draw female nipples so you sometimes have Barbie dolls onscreen for a second or two.
>>280305751Kinda annoys me that Faputa's nipples weren't drawn, not because I find her sexy, but it's more of a "She's not showing them off, but rather she isn't hiding them" thing.
It's also way more obvious in the manga that Reg gets flustrated and aroused by her bare chest before he gives her the goggles
>>280305715>whether or not you're going with that specific argument, I find it way more assailable than an unabashed liking of the weird shit and would like to continue diverting focus towards it as though it were the point you made>also I accused you of strawmanning a few posts up
Sou desu, watashi wa Fluffzen.
>>280305122>in a less lucky timelineMade In Abyss is unironically one of rhe few truly redeeming things about this timeline and I hope Tsucc stays healthy
You "people" are so fucking gay trying to justify loli/shota sex as "realism" or "necessary for the plot"
It doesn't need justification, it's fucking HOT
Just that with Made in Abyss it adds realism AND it's hot
>>280306339Not being a lolicon is not understanding that like five or six elements intersect to make this character design fucking INSANE
>>280305898We're discussing the story's themes. Anon's thoughts on libido have no bearing on the story or its themes, so I'm not interested in discussing it. What's wrong with that?

>>280306440I'm like barely surface level lolicon. Explain.
>>280306497What's wrong with that is the womb metaphor within a womb metaphor in a story about literal penetration wherein a 12-year-old girl on the cusp of pubescence seeks the lost image of her mother within the depths of a flesh-pit via the assistance of a shirtless, impossibly strong boy with a functioning cock in whose fantastically long arms she is held as she descends deeper
>>280306752>zettai ryoiki >leggings>pigtails/glasses combo>tummy, lovingly rendered>spats>TIGHT fucking spats with ass and cunny>tiny little boobs without even detracting from her being loli-shaped>just barely verging on being kyojiri but not quite >tomboy elements>the fucking safety whistle to blow on if an ugly bastard corners you in a dark alley>modded randoseru as backpack>angelically squishable faceThey're all vanilla elements of loli but in one bite they come together like something wholly apart and incredible. Riko is peak loli character design.
>>280306786And also about the theme of child exploitation, which is butchered by occasionally positive portrayal of child abuse. We're not getting anywhere by refusing to address the core of my argument or trying to shift the subject to how Tsukushi's sex drive might improve his art through processes too arcane to argue about. If you don't like the original argument, quit. Don't try to steer me elsewhere and accuse me of strawmanning when I set the wheel straight.

It's like a movie about the horrors of war occasionally trying to make killing really, really cool. It fucks with the theme. This is the first mention of that theme ITT and it is specifically (You) presenting it as though it were a refutation-in advance-of the oft-cited "oh he's not indulging in it, it's to show that child exploitation is bad" line of argument. When I said I wasn't even saying that and that the elements you find distasteful served storytelling purposes apart from that,
>>280305131You responded with "whether or not you're going with that specufic argument" and then ran a script anyway.
That is strawmanning. You find "the lolisho is okay because it speaks to the themes of child exploitation" to be more assailable than what I'm saying, you anticipated me taking that position on my behalf, and you want to argue with the guy who would take that position rather than arguing with me. Otherwise we need to "course-correct." Isn't a fucking railroad, bro, and I'm not getting railroaded.
You're not course-correcting anything with your insistence that I focus on the theme of child exploitation. Shout it into the void. Sometimes a person will respond to you in conversation with rhetoric outside the scope of what you had anticipated, or by bringing up things that hadn't occurred to you. Sometimes the conversation doesn't even go the way you wanted. That doesn't mean it went off-course when the little movie you had playing in your head diverges from reality.
Saying that the horny or distasteful elements of Made In Abyss speak to storytelling elements apart from child exploitation and that they inform the aesthetic and thematic presentation of the work as a whole is a direct refutation of the notion that such elements "hamstring" the story by standing in contradiction to a theme of child exploitation.
>>280307787>This is the first mention of that theme ITT >>280297945 was defending sexual content by extolling its thematic value.
>>>Additionally, there is thematic or storytelling justification for virtually all of the ecchi scenes. Yes, even the toilet. And I argued that this thematic value is overshadowed by its negative effect on the story's first and most obvious theme. You ignored this, saying it's not an argument that you personally care for, and... so fucking what? That doesn't address the argument. You elbowed into an existing argument with a think piece regarding Tsukushi's art style, of all things.
>I think >I don't think >I think >I also thinkThis isn't your blog. You're not entitled to get pissy when someone ignores your non-argument after you ignored theirs. I think you're wrong. There! What fucking good did that do you, anon?
>>280308623I disagree with your central premise that child exploitation is the story's first and most obvious theme. I'd say, " 'I think' that your central premise of that being the story's first and most obvious theme is wrong," but I think you'd have an even bigger conniption if I said your trigger phrase again.
I further disagree that the damage done to the story (which is zero) overshadows any of the story's merits, and I think that's where we diverge. I think that the elevation of the work that is done by its inclusion of the very things you feel to detract from it overshadows any negatives that come with those elements. If the idea of those elements overshadowing the merits of the story hinges at all upon the notion that they hypocritically contradict some ostensibly central theme of child exploitation, then I disagree even harder insofar as I disagree with that theme being primary or central, but I'd disagree in a vacuum apart from that because I think the elements subjectively provide enough merit to overshadow any drawbacks.
I further think that this discussion suffers from viewing these elements in broad strokes, rather than individually. Taken individually, each "AYO THAT'S SUS" scene really does serve a purpose, and looking at them broadly as having a common element that detracts from some overall theme is purposefully unfair to that.
>someone ignores your non-argument after you ignored theirsI've addressed it in the clearest terms possible. Twice now.

>>280309333You keep thinking, rather than providing arguments that might help others think the same. It's no victory to frustrate others by attempting to communicate things you clearly care about. If you think some slight increase in drawing skill allegedly provided by the man's lolishota fetish outweighs the unnecessary (not all of it, mind) sexual content featuring kids, there's nothing I can do to sway you. >>280291417>What's the narrative reasoning for the characters being infantile blobsTwo good reasons. First, the design makes them a little more endearing and it's a constant reminder these are little kids (12 is little) who are vulnerable. The impact of Riko being poisoned and having her arm broken and nearly amputated is absolutely horrifying specifically because of their design. Second, is to highlight the contrast between humans (frail, impermanent) and the abyss (menacing, eternal). That aside, yes the penis jokes were a little much.
>>280315459Well, Riko definitely hasn't masturbated yet. They should practice together inside each other. They were made for each other after all.

>>280316365Not usually, but sometimes the final chapter of a volume is so late that the volume comes out before the normal free web version, because the web "magazine" updates once every 10/7 days and the chapter may be finished after the last update before the volume deadline. >>279902220 is completely right. On the 4th Layer when Riko is poisoned it's not about what she experienced, it's multiple layers of danger and consequence coming to ahead, the curse, the threat, Reg's lack of confidence and how it has all escalated now that they're even farther than ever before.
Just as the duo escape the immediate threat, another is piled on, the rules of the fantasy world have been set long ago and are culminating into a nightmare scenario on characters who are absolutely not ready for it. The sense of terror piles on with Riko's condition worsening, poison and swelling settling in before she delivers her direction to Reg which is when the real horror begins to set in.
Does Reg have what it takes? No. The situation worsens jumping from escalation to escalation. As Reg's mind races if this was the right decision or not so does the viewer. But there's no going back, they can only go forward and as the turns worsen so does Reg's state. He pleads not to be left alone, the absurdity of this nigh invulnerable robot being terrified hits the viewer just as hard. Just as it all comes to ahead it seems like everything is lost. The way Tsukushi depicted this was spot on. Anyone who experienced loss as a young age can tell you that. Tsukushi was inserting his own vulnerabilities for the audience to project onto Reg. Just as things are worse than they've ever been with no hope in sight, then comes one last devilish ray of hope. Nanachi who seeks to bargain and trade pity for love, and an audience willing to do the same. Who at that moment wasn't completely aligned with Reg? Willing to give up everything and do anything just to continue on.
>>280320648Fantasy at its most clinical is about setting up rules and interactions for the world you're getting a window to. Made in Abyss is the logical conclusion of this, it rewrites all social expectations and predispositions with its own reasoning, and goes a step further to integrate it into the world at so many levels. Even in the earliest chapters/episodes where in the orphanage they have vertically mounted desks accessed by ropes, integrating essential training into every day life, everyone watching at that moment knew that was a bout of cleverness in how it plays with expectations but also tells its own little story about the setting and expectations put on the characters.
Abyss fully invites you into its world and never falters. It asks from the onset how far are you willing to go for the ones you love? It's not just asking this of the characters, and not even about distance, but the audience too. You're invited to the deepest depths and will you stand by the sides of the characters you love on this journey? It's not some cheap film analysis "set up and pay off" but an elaborate puzzle you're encouraged to piece together. It wants you to look at its world from every angle and every perspective.

>>280323333I truly believe that the fact that criminal penalties for child abuser getting more lax at the same time stranger danger exploded in the US is not a coincidence. In America, we blame the parents more than we blame the abusers. When it's already a cultural norm to let children go outside on their own and come back home unharmed, the "it's the parents' fault" scapegoat no longer works. I truly believe that scapegoating is why the sentences are getting lighter. "Yeah, the monster shouldn't have done it, but the parent was just asking for it, so she's partially at fault to," the judge and jury say. Um, actually no. Not touching kids is a code of iron. It shouldn't matter whether or not the child is unsupervised or not. If whether a child is alone or not is the only thing stopping you from abusing them, YOU are the problem. Not the parent. It's unfair to children to rob them their independence to accommodate the total lack of self-control of the absolute lowest of scum. Just don't prey on kids. It's that fucking simple. It's not hard.

>>280302225Psychosocial anal-ysis, I think part of it's because it's more taboo to acknowledge or depict girls pooping that we saw her instead of Reg
It's just kind of expected that if you have a group of boys and girls in a story that has toilet humor, 9 times out of 10, only boys will fart or poop, and even now that's still the expected norm even though it's nowhere near the ironclad rule it was when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s.

>>280316135I also lack a gallbladder. You're not having diarrhea. It's called dumping syndrome. I'm being real. Your liver produces bile that is normally stored in the gallbladder and released when digesting food to help break it down and absorb nutrients. Without a gallbladder your liver continuously produces bile. This bile can build up and get flushed out painfully, along with some shit. It's yellow in color and doesn't stink like poop. The only thing that helped me was going to a keto diet. Also, never skip breakfast. Eat small meals throughout the day. Good luck anon. No gallbladder also makes it harder to lose weight as your body can mistakenly be in starvation mode even with regular meals.

Realistically could we make cartridges with modern medicine
>>280330744Kind of, but not really. You could definitely keep a bunch of organs artificially alive for a long time. But I don't think there is anyone who has succeded in keeping a brain concious outside of the skull.

>>280331013Well we can already create spirits so maybe via alcohol distillation.
Explain this image to someone who doesn't know Made In Abyss
>>280330744>>280330985The brain still is connected to the circulatory and nervous system, he just โshaved offโ most of the body including a good portion of the skull. You can remove portions of the skull during brain surgery and the patient usually stay awake so the doctor can ask questions and test if they are touching something important. (Poke a portion of the brain and the patient suddenly canโt speak so the doctor know to not cut that) the heart could be downsized by cutting and stitching portions of it or use an artificial pump since the body and blood volume was reduced as well. Most of the lungs can be removed leaving just enough to sustain the biomass but I assume he uses some external means to oxygenate the blood since lungs require movement and a big area, why waste space on every cartridge for that if he can just have a central system for them all? Liver, kidneys and digestory system can be removed, blood will accumulate toxins but he can literally flush the cartridge by inserting sterile saline and removing the liquid (actually would require more ions than just sodium) what is left would be brain (that could be reduced as well), stem, a reduced circulatory system and some way to oxygenate the blood/remove toxins/insert nutrients/hormones. He basically peeled the loli and removed anything not immediately vital. This is kinda like a head transplant where they keep the head alive on an external circulatory system and instead of stitching to another body they just removed more of the head.
>>280331583There's also the element of abyssal bullshit. He's not bound by ethics *OR* IRL restrictions. For all we know Bondrewd could have just found a relic that oxygenates blood and been like, "Welp, we know where that's going."

>>280326826Pooping is not something you do just when you're sick though

>>280331777Including a pic to keep this post on-topic, but... I don't believe that. Deadass I think they'd just never tell anybody if they pulled it off but that what they did with that dog's head is doable with people. I think progress on that scientific front continued in the dark. Bioethics and laws are one thing, actual plausibility is another. Like I straight-up think someone somewhere has done it illegally by now.
If we're talking about a cartridge it might even be *more* doable insofar as you're leaving more than a head. My only hangup is that he didn't bother to include any bone or marrow, but aren't the cartridges supposed to only exist for a limited amount of time anyway? I can't imagine he has these in his closet for years waiting to use them. Bondrewd probably runs through them at a rate consistent enough that "slowly dying" is good enough for a cartridge since he's gonna use it as a curse decoy anyway.
>>280331777In 1925, Sergei Brukhonenko demonstrated the autojektor to the Second Congress of Russian Pathologists in Moscow, where the device kept a dog's head alive for an hour and 40 minutes, while it displayed various reflexes. >shibari rope bondage of children is legal
>we send these kids off to cave dive for fucking Indiana Jones artifacts and they are routinely attacked by literal monsters
I kinda just wonder how the world of MIA views children. They're obviously not "protected" the way they are here if they've got them cave-raiding to begin with, but it's really not like they don't give a shit.
I wonder about Belchero herself sometimes, too. How big of a bitch can this lady really be? She has the whole Cruella Deville vibe and she's strict, but like, dude, she runs an orphanage. I feel like she might actually be an okay person. But then again, the relics turn a profit. But then again, the money keeps the orphanage going. But then again, wasn't she a delver herself? Maybe it's not even about the money for her.
Jiruo for-sure is just a good person who has a soft spot for kids. You can see it with how he talks to the orphans in his care.
I feel like they might care more than we give them credit for.
>>280330503So not only was it a low quality adaptation but it also effectively killed the manga? Thank goodness Tsukushi is lucky and has a thick skin. They share a very close bond that's way closer than your average boy and girl relationship, they both express an innocent sexual fascination each other at least once, and even after Riko noticed Reg's erection in the bath and realized that he's a real boy, she still felt comfortable enough around him to give him a close hug from behind, even though they were both completely naked together.
Riko x Reg is absolutely canon. I get the appeal of the Faputa ship, but she just comes off as a romantic rival to me. Ever since Reg his memories, he's always been way more closely bonded to Riko than to Faputa.

And often times authors filling in all those blanks and telling people everything can be far less interesting than the theories people come up with.
>>280349635Because there's no good answer.
It's fun to share dumb theories about abyss bureaucracy among fans, but if the author makes it canon then it becomes just dumb.
>>280351473I think he does discuss this kind of things with the editor but the story is told mostly from a child POV and I doubt Riko know much about politics
>>280352867He (almost) always has answers for stuff any time people ask him lore questions in Q&As or at panels or events. >>280359955In 1965, Robert J. White did a series of experiments in which he attempted to graft only the vascular system of isolated dog brains onto existing dogs, to learn how to manage this challenge. He monitored brain activity with EEG and also monitored metabolism, and showed that he could maintain high levels of brain activity and metabolism by avoiding any break in the blood supply. The animals survived between 6 hours and 2 days. In 1970, he did four experiments in which he cut the head off of a monkey and connected the blood vessels of another monkey head to it; he did not attempt to connect the nervous systems. White used deep hypothermia to protect the brains during the times when they were cut off from blood during procedure. The recipient bodies had to be kept alive with mechanical ventilation and drugs to stimulate the heart. The grafted heads were able to function - the eyes tracked moving objects and it could chew and swallow. There were problems with the grafting of blood vessels that led to blood clots forming, and White used high doses of immunosuppressive drugs that had severe side effects; the animals died between 6 hours and 3 days after the heads were engrafted.

Reg went unconscious and Bondrewd could have killed them if he was just actually trying to do that. The time Riko gang killed the first body he just praised them while they did it and after completing Prushka he neutralized them in seconds while being careful to not cause any lasting damage. >>280392050>but she's technically not native to the island. Her mother was a native of the island.
>>280392155Her people replaced another population, per the UN definition that makes them unable to be natives. Though she is brown, so maybe they'd make an ecxeption like they do with inuits

>>280392017she's not black. it's anime. dark skinned people are okinawan
>>280392624Half of my family are from Okinawa, they are just tanned due to living in a tropical island. Anime not set in Japan tend to have more people from other races and Orth is specifically not the equivalent of Japan, rice is an imported good and their culture seems more European. It probably is a pacific island with heavy European colonization due to the profitability of the abyss. But closer to fictional Japan and fictional Russia than fictional Europe thus Japanese and Slavic names also rice imports and recipes similar to Japanese ones. The tribe found in the abyss seems to be loosely based on Polynesian, likely some people who arrived there long ago but didnโt experience as much time time passage than the outside world due to the time dilatation and likely got wiped out in the last cycle.

>>280291490There's nothing to imply the toilet is sentient
>>280401010If something is considered a villager, which toilet-kun is, it is sentient.
>>280402306Name just one thing the toilet has done to show it is still a sentient lifeform

Srajo is the hottest Made in Abyss girl.
>>280402389Real answer is that as a villager, Toilet-kun is one of two things. Either a person who made it down to the village and offered themselves up to Iruburu to gain a body which would better fulfill their deepest desire of eating ass.
Or, a being like Maa-san and many others who came into being due to the excess value and desires that Ganja accumulated in order to sustain the village. And like Maa-san and her fellow value-apparitions, Toilet-kin might possess limited ability to or entierly lack the ability to communicate, however these beings are very clearly sentient.

>>280406729I am a shotafag, so I'm biased. But I do think it's good. It's very different from MiA, though. It is definitely shounen.
>Looks really well made.It is for the most part. There are however a few parts they clearly struggled with, particularly anything with horses.
>>280406987>particularly anything with horsesI've basically made my peace with the inescapable CGI horse at this point. And I don't necessarily mind shonen stuff so long as it's not mindless battle bullshit or drawn out for the sake of itself.
>>280407214>so long as it's not mindless battle bullshit or drawn out for the sake of itselfIt's not either of those. It's from the same mangaka as AssClass. I don't think he could do a forever battle shounen if he tried.
