I like the manga art and story, but personally, its development is at times moving at a snail's pace. Doesn't help that chapter releases are also pretty slow. I usually wait a few months at least to read a batch of chapters so I don't forget where I am in the story and I don't have to wait for the cliffhangers to be resolved.

Rimuru is far more subtle in that regard compared to all the others in the schizo MC gang, but there are obvious personality changes at times like against the Orc Disaster or when facing the Falmuth army or when confronting the Eastern Empire's scheme against Veldora. LN vol. 18 even outright spells it out.
In comparison the others are far more straight-forward.
With Makoto it's also a bit vague at first though when he kills the female "terrorist" adventurer and must remind himself that he is supposed to feel sad about this whole scene because that's what a "normal human does", it should be obvious to anyone with basic reading comprehension and later there's that "monstrous thing within Makoto" that the saintess saw in him.
Van is the most obvious one with him leveling up "mental corruption resistance" continuously very early on and then later on those "eldritch dreams" he has. The reveal that his soul is basically a stitched-together Frankenstein Monster leaves no doubt.
Takuto himself is probably the 2nd-most obvious one. There's initially some vagueness about whether he is being a schizo or whether it's all just the dark aura being the cause of misunderstandings, but over time it becomes pretty obvious that it's his humane side that is just making shit up to rationalize his actions as the dark god.

It's not about him being able to murder a human being in cold blood. That's nothing special and there are plenty of isekai MCs like that. What makes Makoto a schizo is that he is so obsessed with maintaining the front of normalcy at all times, even when no one is watching. He was behaving "out of character" because that explosion of memory bubbles right before he chased her had confused him and his spergout is him "putting the mask back on" essentially. If the mask ever slips up completely we'll enter the "microwave" timeline.

The LNs clear it up (unless it gets convoluted again later in the untranslated ones?) Takuto the "player" is in control, but the being that is actually in the world doing things is the Nameless Evil God leader unit, which is kinda acting as an avatar for Takuto; leading to the schizo-like effects. But the actual leader of the civilization is Takuto, the kinda-an-asshole-but-mostly-regular-human being. . I thought it was actually a pretty well done buildup and resolution.
