I know that nobody expected much out of these jobbers, but I kinda feel like it's a bad sign that Sandro is already doing this. He started doing it regularly in the Berserker Bowl, and that didn't bode well at all. I fully expected Hina and Riko to oneshot their opponents, but if we're going to pretend that the Timer woman is relevant in the slightest, why not actually show the fight and build up to the next one a bit more in the background or something?

If it's any positive consolation, the "quick fights" are common for Sandrovich's comedy stories. It's on purpose, to convey "absurd pretense." Like >>280304171 or the constant "OHKO" that basically defines his Machio character.

Similarly, did you know? There's an entire chapter where a ghost possesses Hibiki in order to win a shogi tournament. The entire chapter is build-up for the tournament and his battles (and learning a wrist workout), but when the actual "fights" occur, they're over instantly and he ultimately loses in one panel to Kengan's Kaneda Suekichi.
The narrative is the idea that coming in with expectations is quickly subverted "for the fun of it."

Backstory is always stupid, but that section is framed so much more humorously with MAAM drawing it.

I think the murder woman is also going to have some sort of fajin like gimmick and is going to be used to show Yuzuha’s growth or something. She inflicted damage on her victims above her weight class, and did that deflection move at the start.

I don’t mind comedic oneshots, yeah, I just wish it had just been Hina doing it(like I thought would happen), since Mio could use a real one. It felt like Sandro wanted to do more with her, since she was going to be in the first tournament(and even had a shadowy dramatic silhouette along with the sisters and Yuzuha initially) and kind of joked in story she was cut last minute from it too.

my theory is that ashura was so good because he already wrote ashura in fist of the seeker, literally they have the same plot and gimmicks with different names and appearances, so when it came time to write ashura he ironed out all the problems creating a perfect story, contrast this with omega and he's flip flopping with the story having ZERO direction and characters getting character assassinated left right and center, and it has gotten worse when strike it rich and blue uranus started so i think it's a quality vs quantity situation with sandro just rushing and winging it

Sandro's editor had time to iron out the plot. I remember how it went down was that Sandro had piles of paper filled with ideas and they shifted through them and were tossing out or reworking everything into something coherent. Ashura was also written during a time when Sandro didn't have to answer for things like "Tiger's Vessel", "Possessing Spirit" or Mukaku right away
But once Omega rolled around he didn't really have a set plan for how the story was gonna go and was already reworking stuff last minute while on Ashura. So a lot of Omega is making shit up on the spot and planning around that and the next time Sandro makes something up on the spot, for example
>Bringing Ohma back was probably a last minute decision based on the fact Sandro wrote Yamashita into a situation he couldn't get himself out of alone and decided to bring back Ohma

I don't think he had as much of a plan for Ashura as people seem to believe. Sandro has stated before that he 1. decided on the KAT matchups largely by random chance 2. only decided to not have Kuroki concede in his fight with Rihito fairly late. By all accounts, it does not make sense that Ashura turned out as good as it did.

I think it makes some sense. "Main character goes to a tournament seeking out revenge and to prove his Masters Martial art is the strongest" is a pretty straight forward plot.
Ashura worked because of that and because while each matchup was largely random they were played with each fighters strength

With all the characters finished and ready to be played with things can be much easier to write out. The weakest aspects of Ashura was the Hayami subplot but it was only ever in the background and when it did come full throttle it was settled in like 4 chapters
This is also why KvP doesn't work well because it's more centered around the Worm plot than just another long form tournament where you have more open space to do what you want and Sandro can't do long form plots, so the Berserker Bowl was ass with small bits of kino and True Champion was pure cheeks

Who are you kidding mate? Ashura was full of "haha keikaku" garbage, and actively off-loaded its resolution to Omega. Ashura's quality relies on one thing: a martial arts manga lives or die by its fights. And all the best fights in Ashura had narrative stakes: every fight was a clash between two characters that had opposite worldviews, and the choreography relied on the editor's experience. That's all. That's why this chapter's bland slop seems so pathetic in comparison.
