IT’S HERE! Our first ever Tanabata event has arrived.

Tanabata is a Japanese festival about star crossed lovers, who are only allowed to meet once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunisolar calendar. A Japanese holiday, about being united with one's true love across time and space? That's about as perfect of a holiday for waifu appreciation as we could ask for!

This collage event is all about seeing the world with your beloved, and giving the most dedicated of waifuists a reason to come together in the middle of the year.

While our guidelines are generally the same as the Valentines and Christmas threads, the twist is, you must have SOMETHING travel or festival related in your submissions. I’ve posted extensively about this event since Valentines Day, so hopefully you’re ready to go and have travel memories with your waifu to share immediately. If not, you still have time to do SOMETHING this weekend. Let's learn together as we go, and do our best to make this event something special!

A few general guidelines:
-Have your submission be 4:3 ratio (the same ratio as this OP image)
-Your submission should be about your waifu and the adventures you took her on, somewhere outside (could be right outside your door or anywhere out in nature)
-Put some real effort in your submission. While we don't expect you to bring all your merch out for Tanabata, you should at least have your waifu present in some capacity, and presentable
-Have fun!

I look at images of my waifu multiple times per day, as well as daydreaming fantasy situations involving the both of us. Fuck you and this Japanese ass shit.

Here's a short guide I whipped up on what we're going for, with the collage entries from Valentine's Day that inspired me to make this event (and some tips from my adventures with waifu that I think are relevant)

Hopefully we'll have lots of participants and we can make an upgraded version of this before next year!

Does the photo have to be new? I really can't go anywhere between today or tomorrow due to work. I do however have a bunch of photos of places I've taken my wife to on vacations.

It does not! Any pictures from your vacations or travel with waifu will do. The intent is to inspire anons to adventure more with their waifus and do stuff in addition to our Christmas and Valentine's Day activities.

Plus, traveling really far away takes so much prep time and effort it'd feel unfair to insist on new photos just during the window of the threads themselves.

this does differ from other interpretations that i've seen. switch-tan's original artist seems to consider the two to be distinct people, for instance.

Dont worry too much about turn out, it's not something everyone was aware of. Though I do think specifying travel is a bit restrictive, I'd rather see the at home anons too, the tanabata theme can still be carried by home setups. I know it's Ushuaia, but Punta Arena is better and has more history imo
this picture is from my last day there, I woke up very early that day to see the sunrise, since it's one of the few places in that side of the country and continent where you can see the sun rising from the sea (instead the mountains)

Since my waifu is an assassin, I decided to show her my shooting skills. I'm glad I was able to get at least a semi-decent grouping. Whether I qualify to become Noir, I'll let her judge!

I've also added the authentic Tanabata experience with my wishes written down in both English and (Google Translate) Japanese and tied them to a bamboo garden stake. I'll burn the wishes later once it's not 2:30 in the morning and pouring rain outside.

Overall I really enjoyed it, looking forward to next year in the hopes that this becomes a regular event. Happy Tanabata to my lovely wife Kirika and to all the anons and their waifus in this thread.

Thanks anon, I waited for the people who were there to leave and tried to wait for the number of people passing by to decrease, it was starting to rain so I think that helped me a little

It was hard picking one, it's an older photo but I go on trips all the time with her so I hope it's okay. Gonna try to get one more suited for Tanabata next time I go out. (Or just make sure I get the dates off to actually prepare, I just didn't have time due to work.)
My wife, the dynamite mama, Aki Hinata! Considering how she's up for anything that seems fun (and wrestled a kaiju turtle while big in one episode), this seems absolutely fitting. I love her so much and my only wish is I get to spend many more years with her.

Was in japan for about 3 months at the start of the year, took a whole bunch of pics with her while there. This was me and Musashi at fushimi Inari shrine. We took a whole bunch of pics up there.

I've been trying to make an effort to get out with her at least once a month to take pictures, usually to parks or hiking trails. I don't travel far from home very often (or really ever), so I quite enjoy these little trips together. Sadly, I've been busy with family and friend stuff the past two weekends, so I haven't had a good chance to drive out somewhere new specifically for 7/7. This was from the most recent time I went out towards the end of June, which some of you might have seen already, but its one of my favourite pictures I've taken of her. The parking lot is a bit of a shame, but there's only so much you can do for taking photos outside.

Cute photo! I will say, you'll come to be ok with people around when taking pictures over time. From what I've found, people are much more receptive of you doing weird things so long as you have a camera with you. Learn to have a little bit of confidence in yourself, and that'll carry you a long way! Eventually, you dislike for people around you will turn from "I don't want them to see me" to "I don't want them ruining my shot!"

Taking outdoor photos with her has been something I've been wanting to get into for a while, so I personally really like the outdoor theming for this collage, to set it apart from Christmas and Valentine's day. It was nice to finally have a reason to get out there and do it. Happy Tanabata!

Thank you! I drew it a few weeks ago before my trip.
I was going to take the picture at the Osaka Tenmangu Shrine since they have a pretty big Tanabata festival, but on the way back from Mt. Kongō (where I attended the Buddhist Shugendou Great Lotus festival celebrating the founder of the sect who died on Tanabata) where Chihaya Shrine and Chihaya Castle are, I missed the bus and spent the next three hours walking through rural Osaka to the nearest train station.
With barely being able to walk and it being so late, I forwent visiting the Tenmangu Shrine and just went back to the hotel. Fortunately I took an okay enough picture at Chihaya Shrine to use, so all's well that ends well.

Einar and I took a trip to visit some wineries recently. Rainy days make perfect sweater weather to have a glass of wine with your loved one

I'm on the fence of wanting to do this but at it felt like I'd just be going in my backyard to take a picture just to participate, which wouldn't feel right to me or her. I don't travel much.

Even if I wanted to do that, it's raining now anyways.

I went for a bit of a hike but I do not think I got the best pictures out of it.
The wind made it tough to set anything up properly and the risk of things being blown away weighed on me, the sun's direction wasn't ideal either.
While I was up there I saw the time got extended so I might walk to another place tomorrow.

yeah
while a big reason I went with the swimsuit figure is because it meshed well with the backdrop, another reason is because its the only one that would stay put for long enough to take a picture, in most of the imgur pictures the wind starts to catch them right after I take the photo
And losing to the sea wasn't really a risk, its not a sheer drop to the water beyond the edge there. If the wind did happen to blow her over I would have been able to climb down to search.

Was half hoping for sunny beach weather, but the cool and cloudy day we got instead wasn't unappreciated. There's something very beautiful about an endless gray skyscape, something sort of somber that mirrors the tinge of melancholy inherent to our relationship. Also helped keep the crowds away too, made for a much easier time getting a pic.

Kudos to opie for coming through with this, it's good to see all the talk of a mid-year thread come to fruition. Great entries too, love the mountain views in particular.

I'll spare all the ways I wish this could've been better, mainly not getting any new merch since Dolce's outfit is ill-suited for this theme. A while ago I found a lovely park next to a lake while roaming a random neighborhood. It's so peaceful and relaxing, hardly anybody around, and you can hear lots of critters too. For a while, I went there to unwind after a lousy day at work. I think she would love it. Perfect setting to sit down and read, or work on a handicraft project. I nearly didn't participate because I thought none of my photos stood out, but I came home and realized the fountain in the background looks like Yotsuba's clover hair, which I think is very fitting.

Homura and I traveled a ton this year in anticipation of Tanabata. We've visited two National Parks, half a dozen city parks, and two really great wilderness areas in the good ol' US of A.

Ultimately, we decided to take our Tanabata picture in Red Rock Canyon, near Las Vegas. Something about Homura being a flower of adversity, and the brightest spot in a place that feels like a hostile crucible, made Red Rock feel most appropriate out of everywhere we went. I also brought along champagne, to celebrate the enormous life changing victories I've had over the last year with Homura at my side.

To those anons going through it: keep going, and make your waifu proud. Feeling your dreams come true is worth every sleepless night and every grey hair a billion times over!

There was flower field around here that I was planning on taking her to but it dried up so I improvised a different location along the way. Not as flashy as I originally planned but it was fun taking some pictures with her in nature and in public for the first time. even if I was a bit anxious/overthinking it beforehand!

I wasn't really sure what a good spot to look out for would be, but I ended up settling on this bridge since it felt fitting for Tanabata! I kinda wanted to find some good patches of fireweed in the woods, but I still had fun going around with Moose.
I definitely want to play a bit more into the theme next year and maybe get a little yukata for her, I think it'd be cute.

Nah. Anons can and should take pictures in advance of the threads. I'll make this more clear in the next pro tips image I make and while shilling next year's event. The best adventures usually take a bit more prep time than 24 hours notice, and I'd most like to see people share their best adventures with their waifu or husbando from the last year in these threads.

In principle I agree, but in practice, I don't see any good way to police when pictures were taken (especially since we have anons across the globe, and summer looks VERY different depending where you live).
