Are "pure evil" villains without any ressemblance of a motive of core belief the most boring trope in anime/manga?

freeza isn't pure evil and neither is most characters people like to call pure evil
they chase power and money indefinitely, that's their motive and philosophy
the real problem is that there's no depth to them because there's no real reason why they want power or money. other than to just have it

They are the MOST FUN trope in anime/manga.

At this point I greatly prefer them over tragic-backstory-woe-is-me villains.
Some people are pieces of shit. Not everyone had a fall from grace to make them who they are.

a trope as old as fiction, there's nothing wrong with it

The interesting part comes from how creative they can get with their torture. Imagine if Frieza tore off one of Piccolo's arms and made Krillin eat it.

Pic unrelated.
Frieza's motives were extremely straightforward and simple - he just wanted more power.

If you want pure evil with no motives or goals, Buu is more fitting. With exception of Fat Buu he is literally just pure personification of evil. He's more of a force of nature than a character... and it's okay, I feel like there is space for villains that are pure representation of everything that is bad, the distilled evilness. Not the twirling 'stache faggot, because these usually have some petty motives, but just a being whose existence is all about destruction and annihilation on elementary level.

"pure evil" are actually believable, because all it takes is for someone to be above consequences for them to be corrupted into becoming that
the "everyone is a good person at core" nonsense is just people coping with not getting away with shit, all you have to do is look at how filthy rich people behave to realize that good people are the exception to the rule of all people being just too weak to be evil
being able to get away with evil shit and still refusing it is exceptional and the true metric of what a good person is

Freeza is specifically real estate evil, and taking actual villains in real life and converting them into fiction is extremely entertaining. There's people out there who have no qualms letting people starve and subsist entirely off the pain of others.

Nah, he's a realistic villain. Racists like Freiza aren't tsundere towards races born differently from him, they act on their cruel racist views and are serious about it.

As an example, do you see white conaervatives care about Alligator Alcatraz? No, because they see amusement out of brown people being eaten alive by animals during hurricane season. If it were white Christians being eaten in Iraq, they would care however.

frieza is (was) one of the strongest beings in the galaxy, his worst impulses were not only tolerated but encouraged by king cold, he inherited his fathers empire early, saw the weaker species as nothing more than tools and toys for his entertainment and before he ran in with goku he could just brute force any problem away and do as he pleased
all of his backstory support him being a horrible nepobaby with 0 sympathy for others and those exist irl too

If a villain is pure evil, the focus of the story is probably not the villain.

I'll take anything over an antagonist that stops the story to have a long, irrelevant flashback to give them some last second sobstory points.

How do you properly write a villain that's literally just "destroying everything"?

DBZ might pull it off cause it's a kid's show and you're not meant to think too hard about it, but in a more serious and mature story, it's hard to fit it in. At the very least, said villain can't last very long in the series.

Just a recent example. Racists like Freiza don't care about the well-being strangers, just the well-being of their neighors.

He's not a "pure evil" villain, just a realistic depiction of a racist.

Pic unrelated. Frieza has motives: Not dying, not being captured, cash and pleasure (which usually translates to others' suffering and death, since he's very violent and even more sadistic). They're not "deep", but they don't have to. Not every villain has to be some "greater good" extremist. If anything, it's realistic: In the real world some people just want simple things and lack a moral compass.

It's fun when a villain is fully committed to the path of evil and has no illusions about it.

The complete and utter destruction of literally everything. Essentially the devil wanting to destroy the entirety of creation permanently. That's why evil can be found in any act that worsens, degrades, or destroys something.

Killing a person

I don't know but Freeza is not that evil, he's a space colonialist who's fine with genocide to get his goals but he might not be driven by pure evil at all times.

no, pure evil villains are great. every writer nowadays wants to make villains """actually not that bad just complex motives""" and it's retarded 90% of the time
>>280311103
Truly pure evil cannot exist because evil is a privation. A distortion of the good. Even deeply wicked people are seeking what is good in their own eyes. Absolute evil is no different than oblivion, because evil is parasitic and cannot persist without something to pervert.

Frieza in the Japanese text addresses his enemies politely before liquidating them. He deduces Zarbon, Dodoria, and the Ginyus Force can take the heroes before stepping in. The one time he spares Dende, Goku, and Vegeta, it bites him cause they rebel against him. The anime exaggerated his personality when Toriyama has him only executing henchman for making executive decisions. The Kais told Goku not to fight Frieza because he's outside their level and it took Super Saiyan to exhaust him. The low-key moments like Goku agreeing the Saiyan being evil and ruthless got omitted, even Goku pity the tyrant because Frieza was talented but foolish. Cell is pure evil cause he's a slasher villain in a shonen.

Lupin is Pure Evil. He's a crook commiting crimes for fun and rapes for thrills. He had to be toned down in Red and Pink Jacket

>I'll take anything over an antagonist that stops the story to have a long, irrelevant flashback to give them some last second sobstory points.
this. that bullshit needs to stop. it needs to be set up over the course of the story not suddenly shown in a flashback right before their death. one of my top sure signs of a shitty writer.

>Frieza in the Japanese text addresses his enemies politely before liquidating them. He deduces Zarbon, Dodoria, and the Ginyus Force can take the heroes before stepping in.
That's actually a pretty good reason for why he's not pure evil. Initially in the manga, he was shown to actually treat his henchmen pretty well. Both the anime and RoF changed Frieza to act like an asshole to his soldiers.
>>280305048
Freeza isn't even that racist if you look at it, all he said about Saiyans was true and he didn't hate them, he just disposed of them because they were a pain in the ass
