The LNs are released as epub files by the publishers, and all PDFs are manual conversions by myself using Calibre. My idea was that we might as well exclude them, and anyone who wants PDFs can just convert them afterwards. Torrent clients don't really have a good way to exclude specific file extensions, so you're always forced to download the whole thing then remove the PDFs if you don't want them. It's just dead weight imo.

I also like pdfs, though I'm used to just converting epubs myself. I used to have nice presets to do it using calibre but will admit at some point I got laze and now use https://ebook2pdf.com especially if I'm on my phone.

I read on my phone (70%) or a laptop (30%) and have not found an epub reader that I like anywhere near as much as a default pdf viewer. Mostly down to scrolling and fine control of zoom.
The useful features I give up (mostly just bookmarking) reading like this is minorly annoying, but I really do vastly prefer the reading experience.

While I'd appreciate you keeping pdfs in the torrent (or splitting the torrent into two, one for epubs and one for pdfs), I'm not going to kms if you remove them.

I just use a jailbroken kindle (10 minute effort, https://kindlemodding.org) with KOReader. Very comfy, runs almost every format ebook. Can connect kindle to PC with USB and just drag-n-drop EPUB files over.

It's easier and better quality to convert from epub to pdf, than from pdf to epub. So there's three options:
1. Include both formats
-makes people download unnecessary files or filter manually, bad
2. Include PDF only
-fucks over everyone who wants epub, who are also the majority
3. Include epub only
-easy to convert to pdf for the minority, also nearly the smallest filesize for text, better for torrent size

Option 3 is objectively the best option.

For LNs, fan TLs are often at their most amateurish outside of a scant few (only ones I can think of that get TL'd well in the fan scene are Tomino novels and maybe the JoJo ones).
Obviously novel translations will be the most fundamentally flawed, especially LN translations which are treated like manga TLs in scope. But official is always better due to the fact that it is just 150-200 pages of text.

Not OP, but it makes sense imo; official TLs are dogshit, but fan TLs are often even worse. The only experiences I have of fanlated LNs are Zero no Tsukaima, which ranges from 8.5/10 to -50/10 in quality (I still don't know how I actually got through them), and KonoSuba, which I remember to be decent. They aren't. Epubs can be easily converted to any other book file. While pdfs are locked down trash that don't convert to anything without hours of manually cleaning up. The only thing pdfs have is Adobe's years of paying off companies to have default support. Epubs can easily be opened on the same devices, but not always out of the box.

There's manga collections out there, but they are split into multiple parts since the filesize difference is so much. A LN can be anywhere from 2MB to like 30MB. A high quality scan for a manga series such as Gunslinger Girl which is 15 volumes is about 8GB, and consider there are many more manga that go way more than 15 volumes then you're talking about a lot of space for collections of manga.

NTA, and I don't know about newer ones. I have a Paperwhite 4. It has root access OOTB. You can copy paste any mobi freely, no questions. I did Jailbreak it for KoReader as soon as I could. It's much better, even if it has the odd crash when taking it out of sleep every now and then.
Must be because of the backlight, but my battery doesn't last a year. Maybe 15 days. It charges back in minutes tho.
