Animation is great. OP/ED suck. So far the show is more comfy and less funny than I expected. Had a couple good laughs, both from the restaurant bit. So far Mako has the most personality and I would like to see more with her. The other two main girls I don't have a great read on, but I'm hoping they will be funny when I get to know them better. For now they're kinda bland. The high school girls have potential, but not doing it for me yet.
I am cautiously optimistic.

All humor is based on benign violation. There is a violation of some norm, but it's okay because it's not life-threatening. Some forms of humor just go way more abstract with the general concept. Generally the more abstract it gets, the more important the timing is to get it right. It's kind of a risk/reward thing. The more risks you take the more important the execution must be or you'll just fail hard. But if you do it right, it's brilliant.
Nichijou in particular was strong on "crossing the line [a lot more than] twice", building up a joke with more and more layers of absurdity and repetition, violating the norm so egregiously that it becomes a joke about the violation being so egregious, rather than the violation itself. This brings it back into a comfortable place, for a bigger payoff.
So far the humor in CITY hasn't been executed as well, but it's early days and I expect they'll get better at it. A lot of it also has to do with not knowing the characters very well. There may have been an issue of skipping the first couple chapters from the manga and dropping us in a bit late.

Yeah, I'm hoping/expecting that will be the case here. I rewatched Nichijou again in anticipation of this series, and the later episodes were objectively much better than the early ones. A lot of that is just that the characters are better established.

It was cozy, though I hope the anime focuses more on the Wako/Nagumo/Niikura group more than any others. I think the other arcs are kinda boring. IMO, Nagumo and Niikura are far and away the best parts.

For me, really just the restaurant stuff, when Nagumo was opening the bottle, the chef was making a new dish, and it all went wrong in slow motion.

Nichijou is one of my favorite anime comedies, but not having laughed once with City makes me wonder if I would like Nichijou the same if I rewatched it today, or maybe City isn't on the same level. Anyway, the series looks fantastic, and the soundtrack is great as well. I love the track that plays during this scene.

Funnily enough I was pleasantly surprised by how well the jokes built on each other here compared to Nichijou, they commit to the bits they introduce which helps things feel a lot less spastic

Staff and cast hyped up episode 5 alot to the point where they were like you need to watch it 8 times, it's got to be nagumo and nice guy being trapped in the tower as the city race would be too soon.

I think this whole sequence with the muted dialogue, music in the background that gets cut off at the end, etc was the high point of the gags for me.

The format of giving different characters the spotlight even if chapters are out of order really makes it feel like a show defined by its location, where everywhere you look is an adventure. It was very charming. Not the funniest thing, but the crispy noodles segment got a good chuckle out of me. The animation and art style are absolutely incredible and frankly the main thing that'll keep me watching. It's the perfect show to watch in the morning with breakfast before work.

I enjoyed the humor, it seems like it will be a nice comfy silly sunday show. What impressed me most is the insane linecount. How the fuck does KyoAni do it and make it look so easy? The backgrounds are beautiful and highly details. Background characters are 2D animated. The characters themselves are highly detailed and have line based shading, or other heavy use of lines on them. The entire time the characters don't look wrong, they always stick to the style.

Lucky Star is a subversion of cliches Konata throws around. Kagami is not a true tsundere, she is just snarky towards Konata because Konata likes to tease her.
