The manga has mostly repeatedly focused on the relationship between children and *one* of their parents, namely the fathers. It's pretty common in fiction to do this just because it's easier and faster to only have to develop one relationship. Iori should reunite with her aunt at some point but I don't expect them to get a lot of development together.

Reading between the lines I don't think they had a good relationship. She married Kyora out of obligation instead of love and expressed bitterness about the situation. Kyora didn't value her as a wife, as he reflects on his life in the Rakuzaichi arc he values the auction over her and a normal family life and he was raising his sons to be just like him, it wouldn't surprise me if Hakuri's mom didn't care much for her kids and that they in turn, didn't care much for her. His mom didn't like the auction but she didn't factor into Hakuri's perspective on the auction, so I doubt they were close.

Did you forget the giant owl face blotting out the sky for the past few days in the story? The moment they tried ANYTHING with the swords he'd pop right in out of thin air and Iai them to death before they even realize it. Hiruhiko was probably their best shot of countering him a sword at that point. They weren't the only ones he was keeping check either, it's clear that the Kamunabi were compromised and he just freed up Enten for Shiba to do whatever was. The man was keeping everyone in check until the Farmer fed him something he could actually act on.

You have to remember this isn't an idealist we're talking about, this is someone who's personally killed truckloads of people totally prepared to die for his objectives. Unintended casualties aren't dealbreakers for him when he's trying to cut down a nuke ready to blow.
