I liked it. Not sure if Iโll ever watch it again. But I certainly donโt regret watching it once.

>>280320833 (OP) It was alright, but it's always going to be live in the shadow of it's far better predecessor. It should've tried to do it's own thing instead of trying to be Cowboy Bebop 2.0
>>280320833 (OP) What's the plot like? Any significant character deaths? I can't stand tragic or sad themes in my stories, and I have a sneaking suspicion this show would be full of those.
>>280322957 I don't mind if a story is "badly written". In my experience, "good writing" usually translates to "frustrating, annoying, tragic miserywank with a dash of cheating and NTR". The opposite of "good writing" therefore does not equal a bad story.
>>280320833 (OP) Did Watanabe seriously looked at the garbage that Hollywood have been dumping on the last decade and assumed that everyone in the west loves DEI crap?
>>280320833 (OP) If it wasn't for Watanabe it'd already be forgotten about. The only reason anyone will really ever remember it because it's him. The soundtrack and ep07 ED is worth remembering, but they're not even that fantastical. Missed potential the show.
>>280323028 >5 people being brought into the same lazarus gang to find Skinner whose invention which has been used to be the ultimate painkiller turns out to be lethal in a couple of years after taking it and he has to be found under 30 days >spend most of it dicking around although Skinner himself was already found by episode 3 but of course the black dude was too blind to see it and only realized he was there all along >the dicking around part was mostly to show the background of these characters >the hacker girl Elaina (the girl on the left) came from a cultist family that just blew itself apart by the end of one episode because funny >Chris was an ex-russian sply who was also a dyke >Axel was a prisoner >no one knows about Doug other than he beat the shit out of dude who said to him that he can't be the Black Einstein, oh also he had a connection with some train company >Leland came from an affluent family but decided to run away because i forgot >turns out they were all gathered in the same gang because by the end it's revealed all 5 were present during Skinner's ambush by the military that ended up leaking his invention, killing everyone but not them because their DNA was mutated to survive it >also there's Soryu dude who belonged to a Hundun program who pretty much existed to justify the cost to hire a choreographic team >the only notable death is Skinner himself who was dying from his creation
>>280322698 It's Samurai Champloo or Cowboy Bebop, it has episodes dedicated to world building and character before having a few final episodes dedicated to the main arc.
A vocal minority of conservative hate it because there's a transgender side character that appears for a few seconds in episode 2.
>>280323332 Yeah just disregard the fact that the entire premise of the show is an extreme urgency that somehow gets completely lost in dumbass side plots that go nowhere because everything that ever happens absolutely has to be about your petty idpol shit. Fuck off
>>280323262 I would have loved it even if it weren't done by Watanabe, there's not a lot of anime done in this spy-fi genre at all. If anything, Watanabe is what caused people to increase their expectations and become disappointed in it.
Lycoris Recoil was on the same level as this but people loved it and wanted more, me included.

>>280323419 Have you seen or watched any film/show with a doomsday premise at all? They rarely solve anything in the first or middle, it's always last minute. The same thing happened in Macross when earth got annihilated by an alien force https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qodpF5fI63o

It was really, really bad. I honestly didn't even know there was a tranny in it, because I was paying so little attention to the show it was that boring.

I liked it but it had one huge problem. There is no impact on the general population when everyone thinks they're gonna die in a month. Everyone goes on with their daily lives as usual.

>>280322995 Its not the "so bad its good" kind of writing. Its just aimless and uninteresting.
>>280323332 I saw the clip and it didn't bother me, Watanabe is too much of a boomer liberal to even know "deadnaming" is a problematic thing or whatever. Not so different from something like Tokyo Godfathers. Meanwhile Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night was far worse with how its "non-cis" character (was she even really "trans", it was a goofy Tumblr tier identity bordering on otherkin) was specifically informed by nerdy culture war bullshit
>adult swim greenlights western cartoon about a miracle drug >art style is hideous but storytelling is kino of the highest order >adult swim orders one of the most legendary anime creators of all time to make a cartoon about a miracle drug >art style is beautiful but the storytelling is a clusterfuck and the worst show of the creator's career
>>280325924 When I first saw an ad for it I thought it was some western cartoon doing the mimicking anime thing, only to find out that it was an anime, but still has that feel of western copy.
>>280320833 (OP) I forget this show exists swiftly after I stop seeing visuals for it. It's not just that I'm just not thinking about it it's that it's completely gone until I see the title reminding me.
Watanabe is washed up with his best stuff being 20 years ago. The most recent alright thing he did was Space Dandy and that was because he lent his name to it without being much involved.
Biggest example of a 5/10 anime I can give. Not good but not that awful either, but you can tell that he just had cool moments and ideas in his mind but wasn't sure how to get to them so he just made stupidity happen in the middle until we got to the scenes he actually thought about.
