It's the only way to make Deido disappear and atone for his crimes but at the same time give him a new chance in life from scratch

It's obvious but Deido, Oujin, Zanka and Kaerikuro will live through WWII

We don't know about Oujin. He can't sneak into Souboutei anymore to find food so we don't know how it's going to be for him. We can't be sure about trapping Koremitsu's soul either

Fujita really likes to insert a lot of his opinion, but in a good way the readers could sympathize with. Other than the parting, there's also how Fujita hates Japanese imperialism which we can see from Zanka's reaction to Japanese's surrounded in the earlier chapter, and in the new manga Ginbei hates soldiers since he is an old man who survived ww2.

I like that this kind of implies that Deido's weird vision really isn't anything supernatural. That he's just really good at reading people and that comes through in his synasthesia, and Takoha is the first person he really just can't get a read on.
Though then again there was also that stuff about being able to tell a farm animal was going to give birth to twins as a kid so maybe I'm just overthinking it and it is supernatural.

I wonder if Fujita is or was aware that the only thing that kind of art took over was because it's an easy way to launder money. Take for example that tapped banana from years ago. When someone pays thousands of dollars for it they don't get the banana, they get a certificate that says that if you tape a banana onto a wall you are recreating an art piece. This certificate, in turn, can be used for tax deductions, among other things. While dadaism did start as something to shock people, it was meant to fizz out. But instead, it was coopted by corporations; just like how it happened to punk.
I'm sorry, but I think it's something everyone should know and that isn't said enough.

It's interesting how behind all his seeming optimism and hopeful talk-no-jutsu, Takoha is a deeply pessimistic person - arguably just as much as Deido. He's just better at coping with it and hiding it.

Yeah, unfortunately if you wanna make or even follow a storytime you have to fuck up your sleep schedule, it's not a major issue if you're young but I'm pushing 40 here and I can no longer deal with it the way I used to, I'm sure it's the same for many other anons.
I fucked up quite a bit during this one because of drowsiness and being tired, but I wanted anons from both sides of the world to have a chance at catching these threads and there's not really a choice for timeframes if you care about that.

On the other hand, I still do plan to make a Hyouge Mono storytime in the future, but it will very likely be daily chapters rather than a whole volume dump, so that doesn't fuck up anyone's sleep schedule, that was my original plan before the KC threads changed my mind.

Yeah, that's also another issue I have, there's too many storytime threads as of late and far too much overlap as a result, it's not really encouraging for people who want to start their own as chances are many anons are already following many other storytimes and don't have the time to follow yet another one.

The only really bad point, in my opinion, is the role of Kurenai in all of this
She's underage but neither Deido, Takoha, or the author, have any problems making her the object of affection/desire for those creepy older guys and readers alike

More than rivals, Deido and Takoha are really the same person but with the crucial difference being that Takoha didn't let his emotional trauma control him.
At the end of the day Takoha agrees with Deido's arguments but refuses to give in to pessimism and self-loathing, he acknowledges that he's way less skilled than Deido and deeply regrets that Deido ended up sealing himself away from the world because he could have achieved even greater heights were he not mentally scarred by his past, he doesn't condone all the killing and shit that happened because of Souboutei but he still feels for the guy because they're so similar.
Deido himself wasn't completely blinded by his deep seated hatred for Yomiza when it came to Takoha, deep down he knew he found a kindred soul in Takoha and valued his opinions, it's also why the cover art for this volume mirrors Deido's final painting, in the end Deido and Takoha end up connecting with each other and both grow from their hyperbolic time art chamber duel, they develop a genuine and heartfelt friendship.

how does this work without taking away all of their friendship and character development? i'm legit curious, did they just create a Happy-Ending alternate timeline?

It kinda does, kinda doesn't, OG Deido dies but Takoha goes back in time to help fix Yoshitaro and save Shinobu while Seiichi destroys the invaders by drilling the shit out of the swamp, that creates a divergent timeline where Deido leads a happy life and Souboutei becomes what OG Deido and Rokurou were talking about.
In the end this doesn't save OG Deido but gives a parallel version of him a better chance at life, also through Takoha's help, it's just that in the new parallel timeline the friendship with Takoha and all that development happens when Deido is still young Yoshitaro so it's not quite taking that away.

It's the culmination of their friendship and character development. Takoha not only prevented the creation of Souboutei but allowed Yoshi a chance to properly explore and develop his skill without hangups holding him back.
The second alt timeline with Kinoshita, Makoto, and Oujin with this father's spirit already enslaved could be its own manga.

I enjoyed how they always show Takoha utilizing his Talk no Jutsu rather than telling, even as far back as the bathtub scene. Also managing the monstrous cast, all the while giving everyone development and a satisfying ending. Literally no deaths to cut the chaffe or writing himself into a corner. I haven't read any other of Fujita's works but I can ascertain he must have a high IQ and storytelling ability.

Travis looked like such a jobber at first. I'm proud of how far he's come.
Honestly, all of the exorcists looked like jobbers, and developed out of that thanks to Takoha.
I feel like that was the point with the other exorcists being brought along at the last minute. To show how far our heroes have come.

I want this in my house.

i mean, my dad had a shit ton of these old movie-posters made in Las Vegas where someone edited his faces onto movie stars, from Conan the Barbarian to E.T.

The E.T. one was specially cursed. IDK why he paid for it.
