Kirakira Precure A La Review 29!

Not a fun episode, but an interesting episode. Its sad the Kirakira hater is probably the one that thinks Yukari is evil.

Summary for the anons that need it: Akira and Yukari are reading English poetry to each other, but Yukari stops Akira as the poems hit a little close to home. Back at the shop Himari is gushing over Yukari, much to the chagrin of the other girls. Himari doesn't stop until she's thoroughly embarrassed herself on how much she loves getting tickled by Yukari. Back to AkiYuka, Yukari is frustrated as Akira keeps getting stopped to be thanked for helping. Is she jealous? Yukari ends up running and when Akira catches her, Yukari asks how she can be so kind. Akira answers pointing out how unfortunate others around her have it. This still frustrates Yukari and she continues to run away. Yukari mopes around and Akira joins her trying to show how much she cares. Its not working and Yukari's Grandma sends them off to solve how to make desserts with Macha. At the shop Ichika declares it must be Macarons, but the girls are bad at Macarons and Yukari wants something perfect. Ciel steps in and points how no one thing is perfect person-to-person and then forces a whisk on Yukari. Yukari yields and much to her surprise they come out nicely. On her way to her Grandma, Ellsio stops her and challenges Macaron to fight herself. Yukari's grandma is confused where she is and goes to the shop, alerting the girls. When the cures find Macaron, she's being tortured and Ellsio summons the MoTW. But the Torture isn't enough as Macaron talks through the hollowness of looking perfect when she knows she isn't. After hugging a young Yukari, Macaron breaks out and joins the fight, mostly dancing with Chocolat and being saved once by Parfait. After a group cleanser, Yukari's grandma gets her macha macarons, and the girls work on a special purple macaron for the shop. NO COOKING DECORATIONS ALLOWED.

Sadly Yukari is way too complex a character this sort of show, so in some ways I understand the hate, but in others I'm well read enough to understand what the writers are aiming for. With a little thought, I know a kid can somewhat understand Yukari's plight, or even understand the reasons why she does what she does.

So if you don't know, or at least need a little refresher: Yukari is very naturally pretty, like even a one piece swimsuit and she looks like a woman ready to start popping out children. Because people see nothing but her outer appearance she feels she is not regarded at all for intelligence or anything else for that matter. This leads her down the path of leading people on to make sure they know she's not so simple, or in the case of Julio can't hurt her. Most of the time she's pretty benign in her teasings, such as petting the younger girl's chins, but at other times she is more than ready to lie to catch those who might try and hurt her. Now that latter bit leads to quite a problem. Because Yukari is so defensive and will hurt others before they can hurt her, she's also never progressed too much emotionally. In some ways she has less emotional maturity than Ichika of all things leading to the weird tantrums with Akira.

Very fascinating to think about honestly. I'm looking forward to more development later.

No Cures are really bad enough to ruin a season by themselves, but the Cures that actively bogged down a season for me are Cure Rouge, Cure Parfait, Cure Fontaine, and Cure Friendy. I think Kira's still good and Yes 5, HG, and Wonderful are still great overall despite those characters existing, but all of those shows would improve significantly if those characters were replaced.
