Today, we're starting Volume 5, where after Jin fights off Border's attempts to take Yuma's Black Trigger and bargains with his own to let Yuma join, our protagonist trio now must make their way up the ranks to form a team proper!

Considering that a Trion body is way stronger than your own body even without training, I think the Raygust is the way to reach B-rank even with low Trion.
Just rush with your shield, use the thruster if you need and, shield bash and slash.
You will only lose against Scorpion freaks like Yuma or Kogetsu schizos like Tachikawa, but those would have to be very un/lucky to find those exceptions among C-ranks.

2 trion asteroid kills anyone if Osamu lands the heart shot. The same would work for 2 trion meteor, he would just have less shots total. Hound is the best no brain weapon for the scrubs, downright OP actually and mastering it would be very beneficial as it actually scales into funny & fair shooter bullits.
Raygust is extremely unwieldy trigger unless you train hard with it and at 2 trion its not the best option against pretty much anyone, Osamu gets his shield broken all the time and re-summoning raygust costs additional trion.
The best way to win even with low trion is to move, shot and land hits. It just works. Tanking is a high level strategy.

sadly its not an issue of just catching the hit, just trion discrepancy breaks it. the SS durability does not reduce the 2 trion downside to 0, just negates it a bit. Also Raygust can be used as a shield or as a blade, not both at the same time, so you have to swap modes to attack, approach under fire with the shield go for a bash and only then look for a window to swap for the blade and kill, all while the enemy runs around and showers you in trion. The moment shield breaks you die and it will break fast.
Also good luck parrying a moderate hound barrage several times in a row as a slow large target, certain death, at this point just get scorpion and run in.

all those downsides mostly apply to all melee weapons, as for scorpion fragility, it won't. Kazama was breaking Osamu's bullets with scorpion without any issue, yeah you are not blocking a Kogetsu hit but otherwise you are good. Raygust sucks as the sole weapon until you have thruster. Kogetsu is shit without whirlwind. Scorpion has all the bullshit from the base form, you are only missing a second scorpion for double the bullshit. so if you are forced to a single melee trigger, scorpion is the way.

Raygust is extremely durable. When wielded by a normal person. In the hands of a trionlet it's a bit more durable than a regular shield. And those get chewed up by bullets, let alone attacker triggers.

Seeing it coming seems easy. You see a cube, an asteroid or hound comes.
If its a meteor, run as if your life depends on it.
No cubes, deactivate the shield and keep running.
Also, most fighters points with their hands before firing asteroids or hounds. The exceptions are the strong and skillful ones.

I think the big thing that makes it appear weak is how little people transform it. Yuma's had that hook in it and it can be changed on the fly enough for Osamu's hole trick. It doesn't take much imagination to see how that could be useful in a melee. That combined with its greater durability and the fact that it frees up a shield slot means it could actually be a really strong choice. It just needs someone as creative as Yuma to show it off.

I feel that Raygust is better than Scorpion at low skill.
Considering that Osamu can easliy change its shape, it looks like its way easier to handle than Scorpion.
Scorpion attacks, parry it with a broadsword shaped Raygust and hit your opponent while you are at it with the flat part of the blade (cut the opponent if you are good, but if you are that good, just use Scorpion).

Raygust is heavier than shooter cube/gun, gunner/shooter has higher mobility than a solo raygust wielder by default. I don't expect them to pull off Inukai's mad dog stride but run and gun is very much possible and they should still at least speed tie raygust in shield mode. The Neighborhood is full of strife, commonplace with explosions and destruction. The terrain is probably super rough, making any vehicles pretty much worthless outside of civilized areas. Also, there are flying Trion Soldiers, but none that people ride on, I think.

Guns are there for their purpose, to shoot shitters from range. Point, click thing goes dead if aimed well. They have shotguns, grenade launchers, machineguns, handguns, assault rifles, submachine guns, extreme versatility is the name. An all rounder might not have time for a cube or a rifle, but they can always use a handgun, someone else might prefer shotguns to smoke attackers, others run & gun or set up and unload. Chika using meteor in mid range is plain suicidal due to her bonkers trion. Making the meteor weaker to circumvent that is stupid so there is no reason to risk Chika going to mid range.
Chika firing her huge Chika in a safe distance is ironically dangerous because it's so big that it can be shot down by any half decent sniper.

Chika can guard against her own meteors, so people with high trion should be able to do it too with fixer shield, the issue is the building they are in can't. Whoever is there will be falling down into the crater and staying without cover completely in the open. It's a death sentence regardless if they survive or not. Fujin is fucking shit, since it's a BT, you can't add extra functions like the most broken one created by Border BAIL OUT, it's ability in close range is not that different from a Kogetsu and it doesn't have defensive abilities unless you can use those slashes as a wall. It's attack abilities are powerful since it's a sniper range slash that can travel through surfaces and it's not very picky about its wielders (A SLUT, I tell you, Fujin is a slut!).
