Angel's egg is the Zanzibart of anime.

The entire "Other Worlds" thing is not an isekai, it's a metaphor for all the potential pathways a high schooler can take. Nagara is the quintessential procrastinator/late bloomer, that's why his ability is to jump between worlds, i.e not facing reality.
The anime also explores what other people choose to do with their lives. I'm pretty sure the twink chose suicide or something, while based Raj dedicated himself to his faith. Nagara at the end finally chose to stop running away and face life with all it's shit.
A lot of anons are taking the piss when rank on Nagara for voluntarily choosing the shitty life, but in Sonny Boy, the isekai/fantasy lands never existed, it was all in the character's heads. An abstract metaphor.

A truly profound anime makes you question ideas and feelings you already had.

>stop running away and face life with all it's shit.
I mean that's well and good but facing shit and putting up with shit are two very different things

I'd be down to play an Oshii-Fromsoft game but only if the latter were as experimental with their standards for it as they were with Deracine

I think one of the saddest things about modern Final Fantasy is that as soon as graphics became good enough to represent the art they stopped having Amano aesthetic

An uncompromising refusal to explain jack shit.
It's cheap, but more meaningful than enduring the next in a long line of writers who can't explain why revenge is wrong and will do so anyway. It's better he just motivates you to think about it instead.

if it leaves you feeling empty like "what do I do with my life now" even for one night after you finish it, it affected you in ways you cannot describe. it doesn't even have to be a good anime necessarily to do that.
