1997
Pros: Focuses more on character moments, 90s aesthetic, great music, self-contained story
Cons: Slideshow animation, No Puck, no Skull Knight, no Wyald, nothing connecting to the larger story of Berserk
2023
Pros: Fluid 2D animation, Puck and Skull Knight make cameos
Cons: Cut entire storylines like the Queen's assassination, CGI, No Wyald

the 97 anime is more self-contained with a focus on the Band of the Hawk. But it ends rather abruptly and lacks important characters such as Skull Knight and Puck.

The movie trilogy feels less like a complete story since it skips random scenes or rushes through things.
The expanded anime series re-release does expand a few scenes like the waterfall scene but overall it's more of a recap of the manga.

Casca is too light skinned

I don't think they did that intentionally, the movies are just kind of washed out and I'm pretty sure she's the same skin tone in those movies as Silat. Agree that they both needed to be browner though.

1997 is the best Berserk.
It tells the best part of Berserk's story.
It has a fantastic voice cast in both Japanese and English.
It looks gorgeous, even if it's frequently a slideshow.
It cuts out all the unnecessary extraneous stuff that padded out the story without adding value.

It's the perfect Berserk experience.

As if people reading the translation are any better.

>if you read translated manga you are reading the dub
This is solid gold for future internet arguments, thank you.

If you watch something subbed you get all the original audio and the subtitles just supplement it. If you read translated manga, all the original text is missing and you have no choice but to blindly trust the translator.

So in your mind sub=dub?

That has never been a problem for me. If the translation is shit and makes me drop the manga, then why would shitty subs make the difference? My biggest problem with dub vs sub is the delivery and English actors are usually just the worst.
Currently I read few manga in English but majority in Japanese.

Will she ever appear in an adaptation?
