I finally got around to reading this manga. I had been spoiled about the winner years ago so I knew what to expect, but it was still a very good read thanks to how great the girls were.

I finally understand why the series was such a phenomenon now. I'm planning on watching the specials next.

I always loved Miku and Yotsuba anyways so I would have been happy with either of them. Ichika and Nino just wanted a version of the MC that he wasn't ever going to be which is partly why they lost. Ultimately it's a really well drawn and well paced series that got undone by the author wanting to keep his Yotsuba pick too secret and as a result gave fans of other girls too much ammo to call bullshit.

If Yotsuba had been as proactive as Nino then people wouldn't be able to call it an asspull choice. Which they use to make the entire manga seem superfluous

I think this is why Quintuplets gets a bad rap sometimes. Because it presented itself like a normal harem where every girl had an equal opportunity to win Fuutaro's heart using her own individual personality and charms. But the author was always pretty clearly using the storyline of Fuutaro looking for the specific little girl regardless of who they grew up into as his main plot. So the message of the story gets sort of confused. Like, Ichika and Miku and Nino all warm up to Fuutaro assuming that they can win his heart knowing they weren't the little girl while Yotsuba just watches over him hoping he'll figure it out. Ultimately negating the very notion of a harem
