Uh oh. This looks like a bad omen.
I know most people on /a/ don’t put stock in superstitions, but I don’t know…
Watching that stray cat casually take a dump on the pile of Deku merch at the Jump Festa booth and then apathetically walk away disgusted is… interesting, to say the least.
It’s almost as if God Himself was repulsed and infuriated by this travesty (which makes sense, since Deku is basically the reddit Jesus of capeshit shonen), so He sent a sign of His divine disapproval via nature.
This doesn’t bode well for HeroAca’s next season. Personally, it doesn’t matter, because I already resolved not to support this overhyped corpse on principle.
I don’t even consider myself a colossal Kagurabachi fanboy, but you can easily tell Chihiro’s mangaka actually gives a damn about telling a raw, unfiltered story, forging his own legend instead of milking tired tropes until the ink runs dry.
I’m standing with the Kagurabachi enjoyers and refusing to hand Horikoshi’s committee-driven, merch-chasing zombie any more of my attention.
It’s painfully obvious HeroAca’s editors don’t respect shonen or its spirit anymore unless they can water it down for Funko sales, ship wars, and endless spin-offs.
Stay mad, Dekucucks. The blade never lies.

[Theatrical pre-sale ticket sales] As of July 9, 2025, according to the websites of cinema branches and the information released by the official channels of the branches, the sales of movie pre-sale tickets of several major distribution theaters in Japan were manually counted: 96 Lawson theaters nationwide, 75 TOHO theaters, 25 Shochiku theaters, 22 Toei theaters, and 21 109 theaters, as well as independent theaters other than the major theaters. Because some theater websites failed to synchronize the inventory data of movie pre-sale tickets in a timely manner, the system missed a high rate, which was particularly prominent in AEON theaters and independent theaters other than the major theaters. Therefore, the actual sales volume may be more than the statistics show. At present, at least 320 theaters have sold out the [8-set set] <Special Set>. The number of theaters where both the [Set] and [Combination] <組み合わせ別ver. > are sold out has increased to 121. [Aiwoza version] <Aiwoza Building ver.> 172 theaters reported sold out.
>Also chinese fans really want it

It's better than Red Hood. The pacing is decent, it feels like things are happening. It didn't spend an entire volume in the starting area, and another in a bad training arc. But I have a hard time thinking of anything that really stands out about it. I can't call it a bad series, it's just sort of mid, and mid isn't good enough.
Also the art is really rough.
>>280428625The fight scenes are kind of hard to discern and the characters dont really stand out.

>>280428625The biggest problem is the bland, absolutely uninteresting dialogue and text that just make you want to skip reading whatsoever.
>>280428364Unless they do a 1 series batch it's looking pretty grim, the first volume wasn't good and there's nothing else besides Nice Prison that would be old enough to be axed for the next batch

>the Black Clover idiot is still going on in his meltdownLmao. Also, I'd answer here just to dunk on your ass in front of everyone (again).
>>280418810Lol. You tried this janky formula:
>(International - Japan) + US = Total International (non-Japan + US)Which is already broken logic because:
>1. "International" on BoxOfficeMojo already excludes the US>2. US = Domestic, already separated.>3. "International" = everything outside US/Canada, including Japan unless specifiedSo if you're subtracting Japan from "International" and then adding back US (Domestic), what you're calculating is a hybrid number that isn’t "international" or "non-Japan" or "global", just some Frankenstein number you made up to cope like the pathetic manchild you are.
>Hashira TrainingSource: BoxOfficeMojo
Domestic (US/Canada): $17,657,658
International: $26,697,167
Worldwide: $44,354,825
Japan (from JP tracking): ~$13.6M
(which is in that $26.6M international number)
So:
>True international (excluding Japan) =$26,697,167 - $13,625,772 = $13,071,395
That's what Demon Slayer made outside Japan.
>MHA: You’re NextSource: BoxOfficeMojo
Domestic (US/Canada): $5,041,781
International: $27,182,835
Worldwide: $32,224,616
Japan (per multiple trade trackers): ~$23.6M
(that's within the $27.1M international total)
So:
>True international (excluding Japan) =$27,182,835 - $23,615,369 = $3,567,466
>Then add Domestic (U.S.): $3,567,466 + $5,041,781 = $8,609,247Which you got right (for once!), but accidentally admitted that MHA did $8.6M outside Japan, while Demon Slayer only did $13M. And you thought this was a win, lmao.
>>280426404Okay then make a general and stay there
>>280426404Damn, it really puts into perspective how shitty samura arc was that the moment it ended the series became good and community woke up.
>>280428740>And you thought this was a win, lmao.>spend no money on a recap>13 million BOYes? MHA lost by having to make a whole fucking movie.
>>280428740You kept pretending international = "global dominance" without Japan, until the numbers make Demon Slayer look worse (which is why you quietly abandoned BoxOfficeMojo in favour of The Numbers and hoping no one would notice it, rofl) then you start injecting Japan back in like an IV drip to keep it on life support.
You literally just proved my point:
>Demon Slayer: $13M non-Japan>MHA: $8.6M non-JapanAnd now we put that in perspective:
>Demon Slayer had massive Sony/Aniplex IMAX push>No competition in February (dump month)>Brand recognition from Mugen Train>Recap marketed like a new movieMeanwhile:
>MHA dropped in a box office minefield (Deadpool, Inside Out 2, Despicable Me 4)>Fewer screens>No IMAX>Filler movie with no real marketingAnd MHA still put up a fight internationally. That's humiliating for Demon Slayer with all the advantages it got on a silver platter. If that's your version of mogging, then MHA might as well be 'Anime Avengers.' You’re now bragging about a $4M lead after pulling every trick in the book and calling it a victory? Delusion is a hell of a drug, lol.
>>280426912No he was pretty bad too. U19 should be a default. Honestly U12 like back in the day with Red Sprite. You can pretty much tell a flop from chapter 1. There's no point in giving 20 chapters of grace if no one actually recovers from a fumbled take off.
>>280428718It's alien fighting another alien that's using human as a proxy, good enough for me.
>>280428750Keep pushing this, someone will believe you one day.

As for this...
>>280418810>Mogged it hardLol. Demon Slayer needed:
>IMAX push>Full Aniplex/Sony marketing>Prime dump-month slot with zero competition>Screen count privilege>And the lingering Mugen Train hype fumes All to barely edge out a filler movie in international markets by a few million bucks with all of the advantages it got handed. That's not mogging. That's barely crawling across the finish line in a rigged race. Embarrassing.
Meanwhile:
>MHA: You're Next had no finale hype, no canon relevance, less marketing, fewer premium screens, and still stood toe-to-toe internationally in August, the box office bloodbath month.>MHA still has global franchise potential. Legendary Pictures, Mary Parent (producer of Dune, Godzilla, Minecraft and Pacific Rim), and Shinsuke Sato (Kingdom, Alice in Borderland) are all attached to the live-action movie, that's actual Hollywood interest, not Sony doing self-promo with its own anime.MHA has legs qnd it's joining the big league together with Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, Pokemon and Sonic. It's also still got content. Demon Slayer? The manga ended in 2020. The anime is now trapped in three years of theater jail, and Aniplex is milking this cow till it's dry, hooves and all.
The harsh truth is Demon Slayer will end. Soon. And when it does, it's done. No spin-offs, no expanded lore, no sequel series, no "Hero Academia: Vigilantes" equivalent. Meanwhile, MHA will keep on printing because it was built for longevity, not a flash-in-the-pan manga with a pretty anime coat, a bunch of Bleach rejects cosplaying as samurai and an easily irritable Michael Jackson demon. You're living on borrowed time and the clock is ticking.
>>280428845Red Hood was worse with its exposition, and partway through it started to devolve into this weird out-of-place meta commentary
>>280428895RH didn't get a CP either. I don't expect Otr to get too much further than it, just 19 or 20 chapters at most.
I don't know. For Otr to avoid U19, the next axe round would probably have to be 9-10 issues away, which is a generous amount. Its only real hope might be Ekiden and Ping Pong doing worse than it.
>>280428837>They haven't done this in forever.False. Aniplex/Sony literally did this last year with To the Hashira Training.
>Trailer drops with new footage.>Posters everywhere.>IMAX rollout.>Special event merch bundles.>Labeled as a "world tour.">Even marketed as a "new theatrical experience."All of that for one TV episode and a glorified recap. So yes, they absolutely marketed it like a real film to squeeze the last yen out of it. So no, they didn’t "stop doing this." They're just bad at hiding it now.
>Funny how fast you changed fromOh really, motherfucker?
>BoxOfficeMojo numbersDemon Slayer: Hashira Training (non-Japan int'l): $15.1M
MHA: You’re Next (non-Japan int'l): $18.4M
MHA won. Full stop. You called it a "filler movie" and it still made more internationally than the recap film Demon Slayer tried to pass off as a "world tour" event. You got cooked by a filler movie. That's not "put up a fight." That’s Demon Slayer losing with home field advantage.
If your franchise needs February, no competition, a recap gimmick, and an IMAX push just to lose to My Hero's filler, you're not "winning", you're barely treading water. And so are Aniplex/Sony who are re-releasing Mugen Train for the 50th time as their final cope because Demon Slayer is losing steam.

>>280429044>>280429082>>280429291You're trying real hard to sound like the adult in the room after getting repeatedly exposed but your math, definitions, and logic are still wrong in multiple ways.
"International" in box office terms excludes the US and Canada. When BoxOfficeMojo or The Numbers say "international," they mean everything outside of the US and Canada. That's industry standard. Always has been. Always will be.
>Domestic = US + Canada>International = everything else>Worldwide = domestic + internationalSo when you're comparing international numbers, you're not supposed to mix in domestic unless you're comparing worldwide totals. You're doing that because it's the only way your fake "victory" looks real.
Here's the actual breakdown (straight from BoxOfficeMojo):
>To the Hashira TrainingDomestic (US + Canada): $17,657,658
Japan: $13,625,772
International (non-Japan): $26,697,167 - $13,625,772 = $13,071,395
>MHA: You’re NextDomestic (US + Canada): $5,041,781
Japan: $23,615,369
International (non-Japan): $27,182,835 - $23,615,369 = $3,567,466
Now let's look at the non-Japan total:
>Demon Slayer (non-Japan): $13.07M>MHA (non-Japan): $8.6MSo yes, Demon Slayer recap made more overall when you include the US but the point I made was Demon Slayer got beat internationally by a filler film from MHA, and if we're being honest...
>MHA made $3.5M more in Japan than Demon SlayerDemon Slayer made $12.6M more in the US than MHA (because Sony shoved it into every IMAX slot possible in a dead dump month with no competition). But despite being filler, MHA still pulled in $3.5M+ internationally outside Japan and the US, without any of the massive distribution push Demon Slayer had. That's embarrassing. Especially when you called Demon Slayer the bigger IP. How does the "biggest anime IP" get mopped by filler in half the world?

>>280429643>These are not US movies so domestic sales are Japan only and international is everywhere else.Wrong. The term domestic in box office reporting does not mean "the movie's home country." It means US + Canada, regardless of the film's origin. This is not a debate, this is how BoxOfficeMojo, The Numbers, Deadline, Variety, and the entire global film industry defines these terms. If you're reporting to investors or comparing box office metrics across markets, you follow industry standard definitions, not headcanon.
>Why use US standards in anime movies?Because these are literally international box office platforms. The standards aren't "U.S. standards", they're industry standards used globally for comparing performance across regions. Whether it's a Japanese anime, a Korean thriller, or a French arthouse film, they are all tracked using the same structure:
>Domestic = US + Canada>International = everywhere else (including Japan)>Worldwide = Domestic + InternationalIf you don't like it, you should complain to Comscore, not me.
>>280429578>>let's not include two big countriesAgain, I was never comparing total worldwide grosses, I was comparing international performance excluding Japan, because that was the entire context of the discussion. Demon Slayer stans claimed it was dominating overseas, and I showed that even in non-Japan markets, MHA's filler movie held its own. And you can't argue that, so now you're flipping definitions to "domestic = Japan" like we're in an alternate reality. You would rewrite the dictionary just to avoid admitting Demon Slayer got slapped by a filler flick overseas.

>>280431053Sakamoto is just unfortunate timing.
Even before SD got pushed into being "the pillar", the only thing people talked about when it came to looking forward to the anime was sakuga and animation. No one liked the characters. "People fight", et al. Once the anime shat the bed it was hopeless.
>>280430426I have the opposite feel. Most KGB characters feel like coming from "how to draw" books. Especially female characters.
UU never had potential because of ugly ass art style and characters and the first few chapters
>>280431095Put this onto perspective that by the time SD's anime aired for real. It was already the point it was being pushed as the second in command after OP since MHA and JJK were already over when 2025 started.
It was literally sent to die without getting a chance

>>280431095SD was released five years ago and it has been carried by its art for at least four of those because the plot and characters suck. It wasn't bad timing, it was sheer incompetence by taking years to find a studio and then giving it to one who is shit at animation action. They probably expected it to sell based on name alone, but SD doesn't have a rabid fanbase of battle shitters and fujos.
Even if JJK/MHA were still on the magazine the anime would've performed the same if was handled this poorly.

To the Hashira Training
>International (non-Japan): $26,697,167 - $13,625,772 = $13,071,395 Now let's look at the non-Japan total:

Does oda still draw in analog or did he switch to digital?
>>280429920You're still confusing two entirely different things and hoping nobody notices.
>International = all markets outside US/Canada.>Worldwide = Domestic (US/Canada) + InternationalJapan is part of International, not Domestic. EVER. You're conflating "non-Japan" with "non-domestic," and pretending like they're the same to fudge the numbers and save face. But industry-standard box office tracking never defines "domestic" as "the country where the movie was made."
That's your fanfiction. Not reality.
>>280431655Oh, look. More bullshit math. Let me walk through that with real math:
>To the Hashira TrainingWorldwide: $44.35M
US/Canada (Domestic): $17.66M
Japan: $13.63M
True Intl (excluding Japan + US/Canada):
$44.35M - $17.66M - $13.63M = $13.06M
>MHA: You're NextWorldwide: $32.22M
US/Canada (Domestic): $5.04M
Japan: $23.62M
True Intl (excluding Japan & US/Canada):
$32.22M - $5.04M - $23.62M = $3.56M
That's the international revenue outside Japan and US/Canada, the metric that proves overseas reach. So your beloved Demon Slayer recap made only $13M in the entire rest of the world, despite a massive IP boost, massive IMAX rollout, and zero competition in a February dump month. MHA's filler movie, with none of those advantages, still pulled in $8.6M outside Japan. That's impressive, and it exposes how soft Demon Slayer's global appeal actually is when it's not riding 2020's freak Covid hype or being shoved into 400 screens.
You keep switching definitions to save face because you know you lost and this part is just pathetic:
>"Why didn’t you add the US to Kimetsu too?"Because I was comparing international numbers, not worldwide totals. That's the entire point of the conversation. You're the one suddenly trying to mix US numbers back in after spending hours crying that "domestic = Japan." Make up your mind. You don't get to change definitions mid-thread just because you got outgrossed internationally by a filler movie.

>>280428326>the Black Clover idiot is right back to waving the pre-sale cope flag and trying to mask desperation as confidenceLol. Also, pre-sales don't mean jackshit without context.
Selling out some collectible-packed sets in select theaters just proves what we already know:
>Demon Slayer has a loud, early-bird fanbaseYou win Twitter hype, cool. Now try converting that into legs at the box office.
>Pre-sales = front-loaded fans, not general audience interest>Legs and repeat viewership are what make real box office hits.Mugen Train had that. Infinity Castle won't. Now for the real killshot:
>"Chinese fans really want it"China won't get the movie just like how they didn't get Mugen Train. And even if it does (it won't), I'm not going to pretend like Maoyan "interest" metrics mean anything until the movie actually drops (it never will) and clears censorship (it didn't). You know what else Chinese fans "really wanted"?
>Black Widow>Spider-Man: No Way Home>Spider-Man: Across the Spider-VerseAnd they all either never released or got kneecapped in China. You're clinging to preorder merch bundles and click metrics like they're real revenue. They're not, they're just noise. Theaters don't care if a few hundred otaku grabbed an "8-set combo" if the movie gets outpaced by Jurassic World by Week 3 (runtime of 2h14m which is a LOT more favorable than Demon Slayer's 2h35m. 2h14m = 4-5 showings per day, 2h35m = 3 or 4 (if lucky) showings per day). Pre-sales are not profits. They're advance allocations. If the casual audience doesn't show up, it crashes and burns no matter how many coasters or postcard sets the fans hoard.

>>280434503LOL. There were trailers. Multiple. Official ones. The To the Hashira Training trailer was uploaded by Aniplex, Aniplex USA, and Demon Slayer's JP YouTube channel. The "World Tour 2024" was pushed in every major region: US, France, Southeast Asia, Latin America.
"I didn’t see the trailer" =/= no trailer exists. That's literally a (You) problem, not a market problem. Itt had IMAX, Dolby, 4DX, and prime time slots in Japan and globally. That's not a limited release, that'a a premium rollout.
>on other hand you had a lot of MHA movie 4 trailers. with no good views, mind youAnd yet, the movie still outperformed Demon Slayer's recap internationally, without the same marketing budget, without IMAX rollout, and during a competitive box office month. Which makes it more embarrassing for Demon Slayer.
You can't say:
>T-They didn't promote Demon Slayer recap so it doesn’t count! And also say:
>T-They promoted MHA but nobody watched so it doesn’t count either!Pick a lane, chief. You're doing full spin cycle now.
>>280434580Yeah, buddy, and it's one week of pre-release cope from your side, lmao. That's what's hilarious.
Pre-sales =/= profit
Fanservice recaps =/= momentum
A fanbase showing up for merch =/= legs at the box office
Meanwhile, you're still bragging about:
>a recap movie>with inflated IMAX slots>in dump month February>that still lost the international market to a filler movie from a franchise you claim is "dead"This is like bragging you won a race because you were the only one with shoes, and then tripped halfway and still came in second, rofl.
TL;DR:
>(You) lost on raw numbers>(You) lost on definitions>(You) lost on logicAnd now you're just shifting goalposts and hoping people are too confused or too dumb to notice. They're not. People aren't too dumb to not notice your samefagging either.

But at its root i just think people are desperate for jump to bring in another hit, so they try to meme things
Slops like Kagurabachi is the reason why Jump will forever be a shit magazine and I eagerly await the day One Piece ends so this magazine dies with it. The real reason that art suffers and stories are badly written in Jump is because it pushes quantity over quality with little chance of true creative freedom. They don't care for how sloppy or half-done the art is, they don't actually care about the quality of the story itself, just as long as it gets out there and the tankoubon meets whatever arbitrary sales criteria and this filters down to the creators who know they don't have to put effort into their content. Just shit out 18 half-assed pages where only about 6 pages worth of stuff is actually worth a dime and move on to the next chapter.
This is also why Jump manga are full of shitty endings because of either: 1.) the manga was cut short so the author couldn't pull off the ending they wanted OR 2.) the author never had an ending planned in the first place because their series was one of the 10 other manuscripts they submitted to Jump editorial that year, so it's not the lovingly crafted passion project people think they are.
Those who actually tries in Jump, wanting to tell a well-written story, finds themselves at a disadvantage because effort isn't what the magazine nor its lowest, common denominator audience want and if your manga isn't a hit by chapter 10 they will axe it.
If I'm a famous mangaka, I'd make the next Avatar the Last Airbender (better than 99.9% anime/manga btw) + Lord of the Rings (better than 99.9% Japanese literature) + the original Star Wars trilogy (a better samurai story than 99.9% of anime/manga), clown every single one of those talentless creatively bankrupt nu-shounen motherfuckers out the window and give the editorial staff at Jump a big fuck you, as I will NEVER set foot on this shitty magazine that appeals to the lowest of scum.

And the funniest thing is that 2025 is the least cruel year for Demon Slayer, lmao. 2026 and 2027 is a meat grinder hell. Dominic Toretto, Dr. Doom, Spider-Man, Shrek, Mario, Woody and Buzz are all playing circles as they gangbang that gay ice demon on Part 2 in 2026.
And then there's the samurai Madara rip-off that underage kids love to overrate for his shitty PowerPoint presentation fight: he's gonna get it the worst. He's up against Dr. Doom, Elsa, Batman, Sonic (and unlike Demid Slayer, Sonic has ACTUALLY proven it's a box office juggernaut) and Miles Morales as the final boss (Spider-Verse finale is both going to far eclipse Kokushibo AND it will an Oscar. Aniplex tried to submit Mugen Train once into the Oscar and got immediately rejected btw). The samurai loser isn't getting mogged by the samurai cosplayers, he's getting mogged by a black boy from Brooklyn wearing spandex as he kills himself and his whole jobber bloodline out of shame, lmao.

>Mobile Suit Gundam director Yoshiyuki Tomino held a special lecture at Takarazuka University's Tokyo campus on Sunday for students studying media and the arts. One of the subjects that came up during the lecture was the 2018 CG animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which Tomino described as "a really weird anime."
>In context, Tomino was describing the film's experimental nature and the level of work that had been put into its craft. He described it as the result of what happens when "everyone puts their all into it." He likened it to the work of modern digital animators in anime, who draw "flashy" action scenes as if to parade their skills, although Spider-Verse takes it to the next level.
>Tomino said that he spent a week thinking about why the film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. "At first glance, it looks like a live-action film, and it's very experimental in various places. For American film goers, it may be their first time watching an animated film that isn't expressly for kids. I won't appraise the film's quality, but on a technical level, I can see how much hard work the staff put into it."
>He said that it's up to people working in anime to surpass Into the Spider-Verse and other high-profile films. "If you're going to work in anime, that's what I want you to outdo. I want you to keep that idea in mind, like, 'I'm going to surpass Star Wars.' I'd be very happy if you were to make something that could beat it."
>In the same lecture, Tomino also brought up the idea of comparing oneself to animation greats like Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. He reminded the audience: "Anime is made as a team, and the people around you inform your work." In other words, talent is not a zero-sum game. Tomino said that he was able to make works like Gundam because he met Miyazaki and Takahata.
You see that, you mutt? The creator of Gundam himself KNEELS to Spider-CHAD.

>>280444379>Gave the MC in Farewell Cherry Boy and a background NPC noticeable tits >But too unconfident in his abilities to give an actual character some noticeable boobsCOWARDkeru I appreciate flatties, but some diversity would be nice.
>>280444644Background npcs are by assistants, so they are free to have bigger boobs.

TOC can be really rough for a newcomer.

I wonder what will Pissfag's cope once Infinity Castle outperforms Mugen Train.
>>280445055i am looking forward to jeremy's an hero
>>280444949>>280444831Miura ended up being right, Trap was a huge success and caused a genre boom and the only reason it got canned was an early extended hiatus
>>280445055Its probably not going to outperform Mugen Train but itll still do very well.
>>280445055Imagine international box office pushed it above mugen train.
JImbo will literally just kill himself.
imagine how bad kawaguchi would feel if he gets axed again, this time in a period when there's nothing in jump
>>280445136why isn't anyone shitting on his editor for not writing the story for him now
>>280445136i feel sorry for him because i think he has potential but he needs to pair up with a writer. he simply can't write for shit and hasn't learned anything relevant from red hood. he's still locking his character in metaphorical villages instead of letting them go on a fucking adventure
>>280445108It will at the very least be higher grossing than One Piece Film Red and My Hero Academia You're Next combined.
Also while it is difficult to replicate the conditions of Mugen Train in Japan, you have to consider how much KnY grew internationally since then.
>>280445222>200 millionwith ease.
>>280445136I don't think he would get axe again, it's too early to tell.
>>280445220what he really needs is to stop drawing small heads on large bodies, they are gross and unappealing, and muscles are not mainstream in Japan
>>280445220his writing isn't bad, he just took a late start starting from chapter 6

>>280445504Pander can be help, no one wanted their series die.
>>280443219This is the problem with Samura's whole backstory.
Hokazono has zero parenting experience and he was growing during the era of tiktok, fortnite, covid lockdown and reading shit like JJK.
He is emotionally stilted and as the most zoomers more or less soulless.
Thats why his characters has zero proper casual interaction and talk like a robots.
Sometimes it works when the character fits that (sociopaths like Sojo or Kyora), but when it comes to emotional characters those interactions and relationships sound fake as fuck.
Thats why its impossible to buy into Samura and Iori's story if you arent soulless zoomer yourself.

>>280445791He's right though. Hokazono should stick to loud twinks.
>>280445941No anon, you aren't right and you reply the same way someone calls out on your borderline copypastas.
>>280445136he deserves it

you want a general but it feels like you'd still be there seething
>>280447004He's just going through the motions, following the shonen formula to a T. Maybe that's why some people reach so hard for reasons to hate Otr, because the general parts are all there but it's still missing something fundamental.
