I've said this so many times, and 2/3rd of the time the show just falls off my radar, in part because no one else online is discussing it weekly.
It's honestly amazing how there's this entire web-wide infrastructure of news outlets and blogs and social media that provide free advertising for any anime that sticks to the seasonal rhythm they're attuned to, but Netflix actively chooses NOT to make use of it... for half their anime. Not even all of them.

It seems like the first book ends at episode five or six, but it seems more so to just blend straight into the climactic events of the second. Honestly the walkers look great, people bitch about 3D but I've always been a fan of studio Orange's work. I'm less enthused about the beasties though, they're all a little too cute, very little of those biological horror undertones that the books' illustrations had. i've seen what they did to bovril too, he's some kind of pikachu mascot character, it's really not great.

these are the things i feel like the show is missing the most. the quiet, awe inspiring moments that stood out to me when i read the books. the tense wartime scenes with real tactical minutiae. the flechette bats being dumbed down is such a loss to me, there's just no time for these slow, expository scenes where we see the intricate workings of these bizarre darwinian monstrosities. it's all lost in the breakneck pace to get through three books of material in 12 episodes.
it was inevitable given netflix, but i'm not really sure who this show is for. it doesn't feel like it's for fans of the books because everything is so rushed and so many important details are changed to the point of frustration and confusion, and i don't feel like it's for new audiences because without knowledge of the books the show comes off as rushed and sloppy, which it is. i would have preferred one well paced season adapting the first book and never getting anything else than whatever this is.

Me too, binging hours worth of episodes all at once is just the worst way to watch a series. At most I'll watch 2, MAYBE 3 episodes in a day if I'm really feeling it, but usually just one. It really gives you time to soak in everything you saw and reflect on it, plus it just stretches out the time you get to enjoy it. I enjoy watching a single show for months at a time, sometimes it even helps track events in my life by knowing what show I was watching at the time.
