Given what Bofoi says in that scene, where he just sighs and says CE has no reason to trust him and any reason he did give him would too likely be fake anyway, so CE needs to stop fucking around whining about not accepting reality, makes me think Bofoi's deal is he's incapable of seeing, or caring, about other people's motivations.

IMO Bug Ego is excellent so far, I think Versus is great too but it had a slow start and is admittedly more straightforward. Very much worth it though if you like his creativity in enemy designs, likeable villains, and ENTERs. Best way to compare them is Bug Ego feels like early Mob Psycho, Versus feels like early OPM webcomic. As for the translations, both get an official simulpub - Bug Ego on mangaplus, Versus on KManga. Unfortunately Versus' translation can be iffy sometimes, and if you want to read it for free, you have to go through the unofficial discord (or wait for someone to dump it here).

I don't think they'd have any difficulty against Bug Ego's universe. Most of the hacks are just pure utility with zero combat use at least until the current arc where the girl suddenly turns into a battery powered Misaka Mikoto by fusing three different skills. And presumably the others will make similar combat combinations sooner or later.
The most "threatening" chapter according to the characters was the wood carving, but even that didn't seem to have any effect on the person themselves because it creates a copy of their mind. The guy attacking them in the dream dealt no real world damage either.
