I really think people need to stop taking volume sales and Oricon as the end all be all, for all series, it just leads to all these schizos constantly fighting for bigger number, but Oricon doesn't include a ton of different things (any digital, anything that's not an explicit bookstore, a lot of bookstores)

samura drama and samura-chihiro drama feel like nothingburger, the arc themes are all over the place
>samura won't looks forward
>iori's decision
>chihiro determination
but chihiro has already been determined, the only conclusion that would make sense for this arc is chihiro punching the shit out of samura for oppositing his will, not this "pleaseeee" heartfelt talk
most importantly, kgb early arcs have been about taking down evil doer, and having good guy samura as the arc antagonist ruined it
haruhiko is a through and through evil and should had been beheaded that time by samura, but he didn't

>Here's a rough estimate of the new film's box office revenue
>Considering the box office market over the past few years, a realistic prediction would be a box office revenue of around 10 to 20 billion yen. This is still too broad a range, but it's no doubt that this is why it is so difficult to predict.
>However, if there is something about the content of the work that breaks through and strikes a chord with people, it is entirely possible that the situation could change in an instant.
>Expectations are high that the film will become a social hit again, and many people involved in the film industry have a premonition that something unexpected will happen. If that happens, box office sales of 20 to 30 billion yen would not be a dream.
>The box office results will depend on how much the numbers grow from the end of July when the summer vacation season begins through the Obon holiday period. First of all, we want to pay attention to that timing.
>Movie theaters are going to be busy this summer.

Apparently Kiyoshi's author will be the judge of Jump's 100th monthly award

Q1. Tell us something that left a strong impression on you when you won the monthly award.
"I had just moved to Tokyo and didn’t even have a place to stay, so I was crashing at friends’ places and moving around while working on my award-winning piece. Even my editor was kind of like, ‘Eh, might as well submit it,’ so when I actually won, I was absolutely thrilled! Thanks to the prize money, I was able to move into a proper place.

Q2. Please share a message for aspiring creators aiming to win the Shin Sekai Manga Award.
Getting published in a special issue right after winning is possible, so I think this is the fastest way to take your first step toward becoming a manga artist!
You never know what part of your work will get recognized, so instead of stressing about making the “perfect” one-shot, I think it’s better to just go ahead and create something and submit it. Good luck!

This is his oneshot that won the award:

Himaten's author is also featured in the Jump Mangasho website because he also won it before.

Q1. Tell us something that left a strong impression on you when you won the Monthly Award.
A: I was just really happy! I got the results when I was in my third year of high school, so I felt like, “Now I can say I want to be a manga artist without people laughing at me.”

Q2. Please share a message for aspiring creators aiming to win the Shin Sekai Manga Award.
A: My impression is that as long as your entry is at least readable and there's something that shines, you’ve got a shot at winning. Don’t overthink it — just go all out and hit 'em with it!

Usui won the award at age 24 in 2013 (he's from Osaka). So he was born in 1989, currently 35-36 years old.
>>280465831
Ono won the award at age 17 in 2011 (he's from Tochigi). So he was born in 1994, currently 30-31 years old.

Now I understand why Saito is pushing Usui, maybe he feels bad because Usui started very late (start submitting manga at age 24 when normally people do it in their teens), and if he got cancelled at age 36, he might've quit manga industry altogether.

Also if you compare Kiyoshi with Sket Dance again, I think it's apparent that Jump was very patient with Sket Dance too, even though it placed at the bottom of ToC in chapter 14, but still recovered and became a long running moderate hit with anime adaptation.
https://www.jajanken.net/en/sakuhins/3p7wEbvn1Z/

Kiyoshi's early chapters' ToC rankings were very bad too.
https://www.jajanken.net/en/sakuhins/GJnOxdP84L
Now the question, can Usui make Kiyoshi as a long running manga like Shinohara did in Sket Dance?

Might be the case too. Although I don't know if a squad leader has a say in deciding ToC placements.

Hakuri
Extremely shitty progression between factual weakling to "badass" genius. There is literally 10 chapters and couple of days between two states.
Fujobait with him also felt extremely forced.
Relationships between him and Chihiro had no real gradual development. Dudes just fought in the corridor a bit and voila they are talking like the best buddies. Bullshit.
On top of that (in general KGB problem) - they don't have casual chats that would create the natural environment for the relationship's progress. They only talk about the plot and that makes their relationships feel extremely dry.
He also has no fleshed out personal arc outside Auction arc. He had it there and it was concluded and there it is - he is just the floating boat with extremely boring and lazy goal to be the MC's cocksleeve. Not to avenge his clan, not to become the best sorcerer in the world, not even those simple things. He is fucking object.
And finally - Hakuri only exists when plot demands it. He had his abilities not because it's laid out in his design. It was laid out in his design to serve the exact plot author had on mind. Same with SBA. He existed to advance the plot at the temple and then got written off. Garbage. Be sure - in HQ he will also exist just to do some shit with Shinuchi or to be kidnapped again. He is walking tool, not the character.

BTW, here's a reality check that absolutely demolishes the "Superman flopped in Japan" cope narrative, rofl. See picrel:
>July 11 Japan box office
1. Kokuho (国宝): ¥870K (~$5.4M total gross = ~$35M USD)
2. Superman: $850K on debut day
3. F1: The Movie: $220K
4. Lilo & Stitch (re-release): $120K
5. Mission Impossible (re-release): $75K
You know what that actually means, Paco? $850K opening day in Japan is extremely solid. It's less than $20K behind the #1 movie (Kokuhō), which is already in week 5 and coasting on buzz and local loyalty. Superman has just entered the market. It's brand new, Western, and not inherently built to dominate Japan.

And despite that it opened at #2, on a weekday. That number tracks very well for a ~$3M+ opening weekend, which is great by Japan's standards for foreign films, especially live-action superhero ones. "Lukewarm reviews" don't even matter at this point, it's still eating market share on day one. And it also has a perfect runtime of 2h10m, which makes it far more rewatch friendly and it gets more showings per day unlike Infinity Castle. Everytime people go and rewatch Superman, that's money not going to Demon Slayer.

Those 20 minutes are ABSOLUTELY killer in theatrical terms. You're not watching a movie at home. You're fitting it into a tight schedule of daily showtimes.
>Theaters need buffer time between screenings: cleanup, ads, seating, trailers, etc
>A 2h10m movie with trailers = ~2h35m total screen occupancy.
>A 2h35m movie with trailers = ~3h+ screen occupancy.
That's 1-2 fewer showings per day on average. Multiply that across hundreds of screens, and you've just slashed your earnings potential significantly. Money talks above all. A shorter runtime = more showings = more tickets sold per screen per day. Even 10 minutes can be the difference between 4 showings/day vs 5.

Superman's 2h10m is the golden zone, long enough to feel like a blockbuster, short enough to maximize rewatch efficiency. It can fit into after-work time slots, matinees, and has room for repeat viewings on weekdays.

Meanwhile Infinity Castle has a 2h35m runtime. That's exactly the kind of thing theaters HATE unless you’re guaranteeing Avatar or Endgame-level returns. For an anime movie with diminishing returns post-Mugen Train and isn't even a finale? That's a liability, not a flex.

So no, this isn't a "switch-up." It's just called understanding how theaters work, something you clearly don't. You're trying to treat theatrical box office like you're timing YouTube videos. Sit down, shut up, and stop embarrassing yourself with these baby-tier arguments.

Cool. But that actually helps Superman's case, not hurts it, rofl. A movie in its 5th week is:

The fact that Superman came within ~$20K of it on a random Friday opening day, in a foreign market, with no built-in cultural nostalgia is VERY solid. That's like saying, "You only lost by a point to the reigning champion on your first game ever!" And pretending it's a dunk. >Imagine losing in your fucking OPENING Day to a movie in its 5th week.
Lol. You're trying to weaponize seat count without understanding that seat count doesn't mean sold-out. Superman didn’t "lose", it debuted at #2, in a market that has never been friendly to Western superhero films. And ut still posted $850K on a Friday which puts it on pace for a $3M+ opening weekend in Japan. For comparison:
>The Batman opened to ~$1.7M

Some of these are only on one of them or also on Netflix so their numbers might not be accurate. Some anime are not even there at all.

Basically nothing surprising. Takopi, DDD, Hikaru, then some cute girls isekai.
I thought Mikado Sanshimai and Shota Prince Isekai would've been higher.

LOL. You're flailing temple-tier theatrics like it's going to erase the fact that the last Demon Slayer movie underperformed internationally and got outpaced by a filler MHA film with a third of the hype and none of the spiritual bells and whistles. This is not a flex BTW. It's desperation guerilla marketing.
>a religious temple decked out like a theme park
>for a movie based on a four-year-old IP peak
>that is stalling between arcs while Sony milks every ounce out of the theater-to-TV-to-theater shuffle
They're going nuclear on PR because they know this isn't Mugen Train again (and a lot of Japanese agrees the Mugen Train days are long gone). The recap experiment didn't hold overseas either. They saw that. And now they’re overcompensating with temples and heritage pageantry, trying to front-load interest before word-of-mouth slows it all down again (the seiyuu are all praying for months before the movie drops because they're insecure btw). You don't roll out this kind of spectacle unless you’re terrified of Week 2 drop-offs (which they are, see Jurassic World).

You can set a temple on fire and drape it in Demon Slayer banners, and it still won't increase screen retention vs Hollywood blockbusters like Superman, Jurassic World, and Fantastic Four. It still won't improve runtime economics (Infinity Castle is long, that cuts into showtimes). It still won't change the global fatigue surrounding this IP's dragged out final chapters because it's run out of content.

Q1. What impressed you when you received the monthly award?
≥I was a university student at the time, and I remember fighting the fear of job hunting while drawing. The award-winning work was to be published in an additional issue of the magazine, but I remember that I had to redraw all the pages because the drawing was so dirty. I recently learned that I had met Mr. Watanabe of "Ginka & Glüna" at the award ceremony.

Q2. What would you like to say to new artists who are aiming to win the Shinsegae Manga Award?
≥Looking back, I was really lucky in many ways to win the award, but it certainly gave me confidence for the rest of my life. Even if your manuscript is not so good, they will read it. I think there is no harm in sending it in anyway!

The only reason Blacked Cuckver didn't get axed years ago is because of nepotism (the midget author is friends with a LOT of mangaka, just like how Watsuki and Shimabukuro still kept their job because they're friends with Oda).
>Kimetsu
A dead irrelevant manga that's riding off the coattails off of a 2020 freak accident. There's a reason why Aniplex/Sony are re-running the entire series on TV, YouTube, theaters, re-running Mugen Train for the 50th time and turning a 47 chapter arc into three movies. They've run out of content and Demon Slayer's relevancy is fading off (JJK, Frieren and Solo Leveling are the new hot topic anime).

In the manga world, there's only three people who can truly be called a celebrity and be referred to as a superstar and these people are:
>Osamu Tezuka
The father of manga.
>Akira Toriyama
Most popular manga ever made and Tezuka's heir apparent (Tezuka literally called him that).
>Eiichiro Oda
Best selling manga ever.

Just like Kurumada, there's nothing that separates people like Kishimoto and Kubo from another mangaka with a hit, in Japan at least. There's no niche nor achievement that makes him a more notable name. Same with the Demon Slayer author whose series is well-known but the general public don't care about the author. Tezuka, Toriyama and Oda are the closest you'd get to "rockstars" in the manga world. Everyone else are just a dime a dozen.

>>Gotouge
A one-trick pony hack (and possibly a tranny) whose entire mediocte career's success doesn't come from (his) own merits and was single-handedly carried by Ufotable. The general public don't care about Koyoharu Gotouge because (he's) not a notable name with a prolific career. They just like Demon Slayer by Ufotable.
>>Fujimoto
A one-trick pony jack whose entire career hinged on shock value. His whole career's success doesn't come from his own merits and comes from surrounding himself with more talented people like Tatsuya Endo of Spy x Family. That's why manga sales plummeted by 60%.
>>Gege
A one-trick pony whose whole career is based on ripping off Togashi, but he really just made another Naruto clone. Like Fujimoto, he was surrounded by more talented people like the editor who told him that his self-insert Yuta and dyke waifu Maki are boring as shit. Just like Gotouge, his slop was (but not to a greater extent than Demon Slayer) carried by Mappa giving his slop manga steroids.

And you know what they all have in common? No staying power.

Anonymous No.280472770

>Kokuho has been on the theaters for 5 weeks.
Cool. But that actually helps Superman's case, not hurts it, rofl. A movie in its 5th week is:
>heavily front-loaded
>running on fumes from word of mouth
>bleeding screen count
>and not pulling IMAX or PLF traffic
The fact that Superman came within ~$20K of it on a random Friday opening day, in a foreign market, with no built-in cultural nostalgia is VERY solid. That's like saying, "You only lost by a point to the reigning champion on your first game ever!" And pretending it's a dunk. You're just exposing how fragile Kokuho's legs are if it's only barely holding off day one Superman, lmao.
>Across the Spider-Verse opened ~$2.8M
>Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 opened ~$3.5M
Superman is right in the pocket for a successful Japan debut. Not a flop, not a disaster, and definitely not "decimated."
>>280468775
>Superman is going to have its shit decimated by next week. Might not even be in theaters by week 3
LMAO. If you actually knew box office legs, you'd know movies DON'T get booted by Week 3 unless they’re catastrophic bombs. Superman's runtime (2h10m) means it fits theater schedules better than most big blockbusters. And it pulled a healthy $850K weekday open in a market that isn't even its stronghold. It's not being "decimated", it’s finding its floor. You wish it'd flop, but the data ain't on your side.

LOL.

Your picrel is the equivalent of the Flash premiere with Ezra Miller and red carpet chaos. Flashy as hell, but meaningless when the actual box office legs are soft.

Fourth, MHA will still get a Hollywood live-action movie. Something Tatsuki Fujimoto who's the biggest Hollywoodfag in the manga industry won't get, because his coom shock slop has no actual substance. That's why Chainsaw Man lost 60% of its reader base and the ones remaining are sticking around because of sunk-cost fallacy. In other words, they're battered housewives.

Hollywood never picked Gege's slop either because just like Fujimoto, JJK has no actual substance. The whole series is carried by hype and memes, built by shock value, “aura farming”, cool one-liners, and fights beefed up in the anime. Outside of Gojo, it has not a single memorable character. Gege is a bit more talented than the other two hacks though, because he can actually draw good fights, the only thing he's good at.

Hollywood never picked up Demon Slayer because it also doesn't have a single substance. Its entire existence lives and dies by the anime, and the moment Ufotable are done stretching out what little chapter remains of a short-lived series, the franchise will die and fade off into obscurity among many other anime and manga in the weeb ghetto. There's not a single memorable character in this series and it has no crossover appeal, which is why Hollywood ignored it even when Demon Slayer wants to fit in (Aniplex tried to submit Mugen Train into the Oscars and they immediately got rejected).

MHA will outlive them all. It already did, since it effectively got Hollywood's attention and the red carpet treatment. Legendary Pictures picked it up, Shinsuke Sato is the director, Mary Parent is one of the many producers (she produced Minecraft, Dark Knight Trilogy, Godzilla and Dune). MHA outgrew anime just like One Piece, Naruto and Dragon Ball before it. Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man and Demon Slayer are forever bound to the anime ghetto. As for Black Clover? Fifth, Kagurabachi is still garbage. It's just another badly drawn manga with shit for all choreography (they're not even fights, they're just highlights of "cool moments" rofl) and boring characters with a protagonist with a flat personality. I'd rather Giorno talk about his stupid, nonsensical Godfather dreams than see Chihiro's vanilla Sasuke cosplay ass who just so casually kills other humans with no moral repercussions or dilemma (author isn't as talented as Kishimoto, his inspiration, to write nuanced characters).

Naruto always tried to avoid killing his enemies. As Goku became an adult, he alsovstopped killing (if only because he could get a new rival out of them). The Joestars all avoided killing their enemies because Araki made it clear that only villains kill humans. Giorno is the only one of the first five JoJo's who kills, but Giorno kills other criminal scums.

Stories like Kagurabachi only works if it functions like Death Note where the protagonist isn't perceived as the hero but rather a villain with an evil vs evil narrative. It's a revenge story, but it seems like the author wants to have his cake ("he's warm, compassionate and very caring!") and eat it too ("he's cold-blooded, he actually KILLS his enemies!").

```Iemori visits the café where Honoka works, but not for telling her about his job — he just came to see her because he's curious about her crush. When he leaves, he encounters a mysterious and beautiful woman who seems familiar. She's arguing with a man in a car, saying she’s quitting something. Iemori doesn’t quite get what’s going on, but helps her out when she drops her keys.
The woman then offers to drive Iemori home, joking that he must’ve wanted to see her again. She’s cheerful, flirty, and seems used to attention. Turns out, she’s Himeno, a 20-year-old idol who looks just like her. She playfully gives Iemori a handshake ticket, tells him she had fun, and even says “I already love you” — leaving him blushing and totally stunned.```
