Like someone decided it was a great idea to skip the character introduction? There was no explanation of why Nagumo even worked at the cafe? I thought the first episode wasn't very funny, so I went to read the manga and actually had a great time.

And it's never explained why Izumi herself gave her points card to the police officer, so her scene in the first episode wasn't great either? Why even include a second half where she gets the card back?

It is KyoAnus, they always remove the more comedic scenes in order to try making their adaptations more "wholesome" and "emotional", they did the same in Nichijou and Dragon Maid, but in the latter they also removed the naked tits

I really am perplexed by how badly CITY is directed thus far. I believe it's because Taichi Ishidate (violet/beyond guy) directed it, and everything he touches is hard carried by budget, whereas Tatsuya Ishihara (haruhi/clannad guy) directed the bulk of Nichijou.

I literally couldn't follow the plot at all without this critical information. As the average /a/ user, the concept of having a job to pay bills and be self sufficient is completely foreign to me, and I need it to be explained right at the start of any story involving a person with a job. Otherwise I will assume it's part of a deep mystery that will only be answered at the end of the series.

It's missing the jokes. It's cut out huge amounts of build up and plot. Whether or not a joke is funny or not is based on the delivery. The best parts of the first chapters were all cut and it's weird because those parts aren't even hard to animate.
