This thread has always highly rated Splash Star. It being forgotten is more of a Japan thing. I actually really like Suite enough to make it top 10, but it is kind of lacking any obvious distinguishing factors. I just think the overall execution of the season is great other than the somewhat jank character focus distribution and not going quite as hard on being a music season as it could have. I think the latter especially is why people don't really remember it.
Kira Kira uses insert songs a lot, ST has singing transformations, and Kimi to Idol has singing finishers, so all three of them arguably stand out more as "music" seasons, and there are yet other seasons which have Cures whose main character trait is music related somehow.

Funniest shit I've ever seen

I just finished Futari wa + Max Heart! Thanks for the recommendation! I'm finally a real precure fan? I can watch so many All Stars movies now...

The first half of Futari wa is extremely good. I love how different all the first-half generals are in their approach to fighting the precures, and the fights are usually more focused on them than on the Zakennas. The highlight for sure was the fight against their precure-cosplaying classmates, which might be one of the coolest fights in the series. The midseason finale is kind of anticlimactic in comparison, but at least it doesn't drag.
The second half starts out strong too; the introduction episodes for the generals made me really excited, but it feels like they didn't do anything with their human pasts and personalities, which is a shame. I would have loved to see them use their old positions and newfound powers to advance Evil King's agenda in human world.

Also, I really like Akane. She's a bit like Kaoru but a beautiful hag and senpai. Truly the best kind of character. I'm glad she got such a big role in Max Heart. Hikari is also great. I love the basic setup of Max Heart incarnating both the Queen of Light and Evil King a humans, but I feel like they just don't do enough with it? I still like how distinct Shiny Luminous is from the Precures in terms of her role in the story and fighting style.

What should I watch next? I've watched:
Splash Star -> Five+Go -> Heartcatch (best!) -> KiraKira -> Go!Pri (best!) -> Tropical -> Fresh (very best!) -> Smile -> Mahou ->Doki (best!) -> Wonderful+StarTwinkle -> Hugtto (best!) -> Suite (best!) -> Futari wa+Max Heart
If possible, I'd like something as different from Futari wa as possible. I get why FW is considered a bit of a slog.

A positive side effect of Futari wa having two seasons is that we get to see the main characters all graduate. It made for a few quite emotional scenes. The final lacrosse match is much more impactful than the corresponding final softball game in Splash Star, because it's Nagisa's final match in middle school and not some senpai's final match. (Not that Splash Star's episode is bad, Saki is quite invested in that game as well.)
I wish we had more 3rd year main characters, but I can see how it might distract from the world ending and everything else that has to be crammed into the final episodes.

Kirakira Precure A La review 33!

The girls learning to deal with Bibury was rather fun.

After the last episode all the cure trinkets are now adorable familiars. Everyone speculates on what Lumiere wants. In Noir's dark realm the generals are nervous as one of Noir's creatures awaken. Back at the shop Ichika sees a happy couple off, only to panic as the cupcakes are quickly disappearing. As the girls get started cooking Ciel walks in wondering what all the hubbub is, and they all look out to see the cupcake blackhole: Bibury. Bibury rudely demands more as she is 100 years their elder, only to pause to feed Pekorin. Ciel bothered by this behavior drags Bibury back to do some of her own cooking. Bibury gets right into it, able to achieve Ichika levels of energy. With a little coaching from Ciel, Bibruy is quickly making kirakira infused confections. But things can't last as screams echo outside. The girls run out to see friends and couples near violently fighting. The Noir creature slowly makes its appearance. Its menacing aura last long enough to scare away the new familiars and the monster fades out. The girls panic and chase after the familiar contemplating the idea of sweets and what they might be without all the enjoyment. "Empty calories" as Himari explains. All the girls end up back at the shop where the Familiars had been all along. This triggers the next the attack and cures are now in action. They can't fight the incorporeal beast which knocks the familiars back to their crystal form. The Cures collect their crystals and Whip steps up to say she's not backing down, even in a world of darkness, she will never stop making sweets. Thus the cures come together and cleans the beast with their new attack. Afterwards the familiars are back and getting accessorized with new tool. Bibury smiles on at the scene, only for Ciel to pop up and drag her off to her shop for more sweets making.

ST's my favorite movie, though maybe it's my space autism acting up again. I recently rewatched it in the middle of my ST marathon.
>starts with Hikaru and Lala adopting a new kid and bonding with it

>magical girls vs space criminals and getting forms reminiscent of all of the constellations (admittedly, the latter should have happened in season)
>then large scale space battle
>the final heartwarming scenes of the movie including the post credits
It's just a sincerely magical experience all throughout. I can see people not liking that it's an extended Hikaru and Lala focus episode, but I never felt that the other three Cures lacked screen time in the season itself.

I love Nana, she’s so pretty. Can’t wait for her episodes.

Madoka's screentime is somewhat frontloaded, but her final cour episode is impactful enough that she doesn't have the same problem as Itsuki, and it helps that she has a little screen time in the Lala and Elena episodes in the final cour too.
Elena's episodes are backloaded. She's definitely a lacking screen time in the first 3/4ths of the anime, but the final cour more than makes up for that by giving her 3 focus episodes to wrap up her characterization nicely.
Yuni has plenty of screentime before and after she becomes a Cure. I would say she has about equal to or maybe more screentime than Hikaru.

The problem is honestly more that the team's dynamic is kind of garbage. Madoka and Elena barely interact with characters on the normal episodes, it's likely they only remember they exist when they're the focus characters.
Yuni straight up never really feels like she ever grew to like any of the other 4.

Go Princess does not remotely have good writing. Please. Everything involving Towa was dogshit, Minami is a summ zero character, the actual villains border on nonsensical and are strictly carried by "it was cool when Shut punched Close in his smug face".
It's carried entirely by adult men cumming to the good action and Haruka being a strong lead, but that makes it merely decent writing-wise.

Out of the biggest teams the only ones I recall having good character chemistry that is consistently present was Yes 5 and even that had some blind spots (Komachi barely ever spoke to Rin or Kurumi, Urara and Karen never did anything together, etc) and frankly it kind of had to throw away having a plot to make room for all this character interaction stuff.

in a perfect world every season's group dynamic would be as strong as futari wa or maho but larger teams mean more merchandise to sell to kids and you have to accept the concession that this is a toy commercial first and foremost.

personally I think wonderful had a good compromise. two groups of two. wouldn't mind more of that. if nothing else having the midseason cure be a duo like that or idol's doing right now is clearly a working combo. emiru and ruru for another great example.

The other 3 aren't as close to her, but they are close enough to tease her when the opportunity comes. They like Yuni in their own way, and all of the Cures did have at least one shared focus episode with her in the middle of the season. I think the show treats Madoka significantly better than Elena when it comes to those two interacting with the other characters when it's not their focus episode, though part of that is due to Madoka's dad being plot relevant. That said, one conversation Madoka has with Lala in the Saman episodes really sticks out to me, and that had nothing to do with her dad.

Wonderful's problem is that the screentime was distributed weirdly, kind of like Suite. Suite went initial duo for first half, first midseason for the third cour, and then 2nd midseason for the last cour where as Wonderful puts the bulk of the doggy duo episodes in the first and last cour whereas the cats dominate the 2nd and 3rd cour (arguably the first cour too). I don't think it's a huge problem and something less of an issue in a marathon like with Suite, but I don't prefer it.
Hugtto definitely felt like 2 different teams throughout; I'd say that Wonderful did a better job of making them feel unified in the end. Hugtto does have Hana as a lynchpin, so it's not that bad, but Homare and Saaya don't interact enough with Emiru and Ruru.

I think Wonderful worked well on that note because the two groups of two are two animals and their owners and the owners are friends and the animals end up interacting thanks to that link tied between their human owners. But IMO in a normal season with 4 humans it would feel weird for a series that pushes "power of friendship" to just flat out create a series where our characters are two duos. I think it really is just a matter of Toei making sure the production crews take a bit more care to make sure all pieces of the cast have good to decent synergy.
Like look at Tropical Rouge, it had a great set-up for some kind of Breakfast Club-esque friend group but instead it ends up feeling like "Manatsu, Laura, and the other three who react to Laura" and it leads us to some weird shit like Manatsu and Sango having key emotional scene in Sango's last episode that just makes you go "hey this is the first time they really do anything meaty together since Sango's Cure Transformation episode".

I think Kimi to Idol is doing a decent job of making sure that the Idols all have some sort of connection with each other (even if it's somewhat antagonistic on Meroron's end) despite the current one trio and duo situation. I think it's doing a better job than Hugtto and Wonderful did since both Nana and Kokoro do get a decent amount of interaction with Purirun and Meroron instead of just having Uta be the connecting point.

I dunno, I feel like people kind of ignore the fact that a fair bit of the Cat Duo's story has the dog duo as important enablers of their growth because "introverts break out of their shell" is a bit more glamorous than "a girl and her talking dog tackle communication".
Like Mayu is only able to become the ideal Mayu thanks to Iroha reaching out to her and being a good friend, Yuki is only able to grow out of her shell because Komugi and Iroha together expose her to a world beyond Mayu.
That one scene in the Yuki Goes To School episode where Iroha convinces Yuki that she can't act like Mayu is in danger of heartbreak if she interacts with other people IMO is a scene that would never be able to happen without those two extroverted characters standing there, meanwhile, Mayu's contribution to Iroha and Komugi's situation in the early show could've been done by any other character who owns a pet which is... pretty much the entire world of Wonderful.

If I had a complaint to make about Wonderful's structure it would be the fact that they didn't do enough with the main villain to make us care about his story but that is sadly true in Precure more often than not because the final bosses are often lazy fuckers who barely do shit before the finale arc.

I hope a new major character will be introduced very soon, I don't care if they avgood guy or otherwise.

To me, TR goes Laura, Manatsu and Minori, and then Sango and Asuka in importance.
I don't know if people ignore her because they don't like her but Minori does have a big role in TR's cast.

Characters are an aspect of the story though. I think you mean plot. Characters being the be all, end all for a story is a common enough philosophy though I personally don't like it. It can lead to baffling opinions like "The setting is like a character of its own which is why I love the story despite not liking the other characters that much" or "I can't like a story unless I'm represented".

I agree, to be honest Precure doesn't really tend ot have good stories because by design they're supposed to be a year long show for kids that kids can hop into at any time and get into the groove of it without ending up confused, so it's really up to the characters themselves to make it worth it.
