Instead of power, work on keeping your arm and wrist straight and learning to aim. After you learn to aim you can work on throwing harder.
Leaning over and sweeping your leg behind you can help with this by moving your body out of the way of your arm/the ball.
The marks on the lane can help with your accuracy. Aim for them instead of the pins.
The lines/dots/arrows/whatever on the floor by the ball return can help you line your feet up more consistently. Use your dominant foot (the first foot you step with), and line it up with one of those. Adjust left or right to help with your aim.
Once your aim gets better and you can consistently put the ball where you want it, aim for one pin left or right of the center pin. This should help the pins "explode" and knock more of them down.
Have fun. Bowling is about drinking beer with your buds and putting funny names up on the score board.
