What's happening in it at this point? I've been playing it for years and have read all the story but (partly because of that) I'm way behind on the anime.

That's nuts. That's way more historical context than chapters 7 and 8 need. Doing it around chapter.. 11? 12? would totally make sense, better still as an OVA or something. I dunno, honestly for as much as I've enjoyed the main theme there are definitely event arcs I've been more into, like the greater Near Light arc was probably my point of peak enthusiasm for the game all around and I'd love to see some of those bigger side stories get animated, especially for the people who haven't played but have been enjoying the setting and story.

Yeah, I have zero idea what niche she'd fit. I don't think we've ever seen her do anything other than use computers and fuck around so she's kind of a clean slate. I was expecting her by the end of the Victoria arc since whenever it was that Kal'tsit said to rely on her more. Maybe they'll do the chain medic where they bring out some new archetype with a couple really shitty 5* ops to introduce it before bringing out someone OP.

Still wondering about what will be the Doc's fate. For now in episode 15 he, Amiya and all of Rhodes Island got kicked out by Priestess (Doc's ex) into a smaller landship Doc Kal'tsit procured, Doc Kal'tsit got erased (hopefully temporarily) and overall it sucks.

For those who didn't play the game, the flashbacks are something that happened some 10 years ago leading up to when the doc was fridged
The game had multiple events or short little stories you could unlock that would slowly hint shit from the events that lead up to whatever happened
Some reveals we're cool as fuck

Also some event menu screens were ludo kino like the babel one when you finally get the answers people wanted since day1
As I'm not sure how much they are going to show I'm leaving everything as vague as possible, i wish they'd just make more episodes or OVAs or movies for some events but thats not happening

And who knows like in a perfect world we'd get everything but they will probably just do the main story, maybe but a small maybe we get a walk in the dust before ch9 or during it as a flashback while traveling and we'd probably get babel fully adapted

The pace is not the issue at all. The issue is that the original side story from the game is just shit like this.
It introduced dozens of new people, events, and concepts that were never mentioned before in the most cryptic way possible, only clarifying them years later in other stories.
It randomly jumped from scene to scene just like in the anime too.
And the anime adapted literally everything that actually happened, it only cut out eight hours of people standing around and monologuing about philosophy between the jump cuts.
If anything, the anime made things MORE clear than they were in the game when this story was originally released.

Vigilo is probably still one of my favorites. The reveals were great, the boss rush stage was a cool challenge, the line about Frostnova really twisted the knife, and there was one line that really fucked me up where Amiya brings up some fond memory with the Doctor from when she was little and you can't remember it because of the amnesia and it says she keeps smiling but her smile seems lonelier.

I don't necessarily disagree with you on the original being cryptic with a bunch of jumps, but it's way easier to actually register what's happening when reading it broken up between gameplay segments that just shotgunning it at you rapid-fire in an animation.

It was a sidestory episode with a bit of what's currently happening, Darknights memoir was the start of Wuh's face turn and a glimpse at Babel, it makes sense that you'd be lost.

Pretty good episode, but holy fuck, it felt like I was watching it at 1.5 speed. I fear for animeonlies, if there are even any left at this point.

I'm an animeonly, and yes, it felt quite disjointed and jumpy. But relatively easy to understand that most shown events were prequels, especially when they've shown young Amiya, and DOCTAH being all suave.

Still watching, I like the setting and it has decent production values, which sadly it's enough to make it better than a lot of modern anime.

If anyone wants more but doesn't want to play the game I can link one or two of the story reader sites. A lot of the side stories are great, plus if you have a character you're particularly fond of they may have little supplementary short stories that focus on them.

Although I do play the game, I only read the story up to season 1 and basically skipped the story from that point on. However I understood everything perfectly regarding what the viewer is supposed to know from this episode so it wasn't really that confusing. Honestly, it's pretty easy to understand from just reading the subtitles and using context clues. I haven't played through Darknights Memoir but for the anime-onlys, this episode gave the viewer all the information they needed.
