The show in the webm was borderline hentai. The mods thought it should belong on /h/, and started deleting the show's threads while it was airing. /a/ disagreed. People trolled the mods and it nearly broke the board until Hiroyuki himself intervened. The incidence is now known as Nipplemod or Nipplegate.

That webm was the most common one to taunt them because the "Nipplemod" posted it as a "proof" that it belonged on /h/. After some time, they finally auto-blocked the webm through the hashes, so that nobody could attach it to their post.

Solo leveling's animation is mediocre, the fact that so many people think it has good animation shows the garbage taste of normalfags.

This was a passion project, OP. You need people who like what they do and know what they like, and you need someone who knows all those people to get them all in a room and unite them in the name of kino. A good example would be hand drawn vehicles and mechas in older anime, there's no room for cheating because they're rigid shapes that aren't treated with the same level of cartooning as the human characters. They were also some of the earliest things to be replaced with CGI constructs for this exact reason.

Not sure what you meant by cheating, but shortcuts definitely had to be taken to depict moving vehicles because it would be too laborious otherwise. That's why you don't get too many dynamic shots with 2D vehicles, and when you do, the models are greatly simplified. Some complex 2D vehicle scenes in old anime also used 3D reference for assistance, like the attack helicopter scene in Patlabor 2.

Everything is in clear view, there's no stylistic exaggeration or deformation or crazy perspectives, just super clean animation where the bike maintains its exact shape and details despite the changing orientation. It wasn't anything special at the time, a more constrained production would've animated it in fewer frames and maybe cut to a new shot earlier but that's it. This kind of "slow" and deliberate way of animating things is far less common than it used to be, and it's not just for stylistic reasons.

I can usually accept CG for vehicles, mechs, and other big mechanical objects, probably because they typically don't require much fluidity in their motion, and also because I personally think it's kinda neat how it separates machines from everything else, but people will never look better in 3DCG than they do in 2D
