Wing felt like I was watching an Idiot Plot, but the writers thought it was a serious drama. At no point in time did a single character do anything reasonable for the situation and absolutely none of the character relationships felt natural. Wing squandered some of the best mech designs in the franchise on one of the worst series.

I liked it but it is pretty dated.

There are events, etc in Zeta that occur that reek EXECUTIVE MANDATE that really hamper the narrative, that, even though a good chunk of MSG is mostly monster of the week, things that occur in it don't seem to have that same noticeable feel. The monster of the week enemies in MSG don't come off as SELL TOYS because the narrative heavily focuses on the effect these battles have on Amuro and the crew of the White Base. Whereas, Shinta and Qum's random appearance in Zeta reek of WE NEED KIDS IN A KIDS SHOW

It's a creative anti-war mecha remake of Wizard of the Oz, and the appeal is finding the parallels between the source material and the actual show. The five main pilots aren't developed because the real focus is on Zechs, Treize, and Relena. There's nothing wrong with having flat characters if it helps with the theme of the story.

Zeta's narrative was consistent. I thought that it was interesting that all factions had the same beliefs but were divided on how to execute it. It was tragic because of it.

People meme that Reccoa had a woman moment, but the show points out that she was mentally unwell over having PTSD and survivor's guilt from the one year war, becoming susceptible to fascists after they temporarily lovebombed her. The Titans also had the same goals of the AEUG, but believed that it should be done with force as opposed to free will. That's why they were funding programs that brainwashed people into being Cybernewtypes. She was probably a doomer who took the accelerationist pill

Wing is terrible. It has a charismatic cast and cool looking grunts, but the actual show is a repetitive mess. The reason Wing can be remembered fondly is because of its concepts. When you actually experience the day to day of Wing it's enough to tear your hair out.
