Got around to this weeks Kimi to Idol episode. Nice to see Kaito actually feeling like a proper mentor to Cure Idol with the autograph thing. It just took half of the season. I am kind of curious if his interest in Uta is related to his interest in Cure Idol or if that's a seperate matter, and he hasn't really linked the two of them together at all. There were a lot of neat small moments I liked in general other than Kaito finally being a decent character.

Interestingly, Uta does seem to get somewhat flustered around Kaito whenever he does the celebrity act but not when he's treating her like a fellow idol. Her blushing seems to be mostly out of embarrasment that someone world famous is taking so much notice of her as opposed to sincere romantic attraction. I feel like the show would have made it more obvious by the halfway point if they were actually trying to go the Kaito/Uta route rather than maybe "the Kaito acknowledging Cure Idol as surpassing him in the end" route. It's not like the show shys away from how obviously Meroron wants to meromero with Purirun, and there were still a number of Purirun/Uta moments in this episode.

Yeah, but George is a major villain as opposed to a side character. It's not that unusual for major villains to mostly interact with their main rival. Usually, thematically relevant recurring side characters get to interact with more than one Cure. I would say episode 4 was more blatantly obvious because of how the moment Uta blushed there was framed as the climax of that episode. Other than that early blushing scene in the last episode, there was Cure Idol giving fansa to Kaito, but that's pretty easy to just interpret as 2 professionals acknowledging one another. There's also how there was some Purirun/Uta moments mixed into the episode, and how Kaito talked about what inspired him to become an idol in the first place, who is almost certainly a different person. There's only a 4 or so year age gap, so maybe the twist is that toddler Uta inspired him like with Nana, but that's kind of silly.

Personally, I find the notion of both Kaito/Uta and Purirun/Meroron moments to be the foundation for the Purirun/Uta endgame to be hilarious. There is a big objective reason to think it's actually the case though since the first episode focused on Uta and Purirun, the whole amnesia arc mess was because of how strong Purirun's feelings were for Uta specifically, and their feelings for each other formed a miracle to resolve that arc. Either Purirun suddenly discovers romance by some miracle, or they teach the audience a lesson about how people aren't required to reciprocate your love for them and Meroron really accepts that they are only friends, which is fitting for an idol season considering how unhealthy people's obsessions with idols can be irl (even if PuriMero isn't exactly the same since they are actual friends and not just in a parasocial relationship). I feel like once Kimi to Idol is done, he'l be mostly remembered as some sort of obligatory male love interest that's minor enough to not really affect people's opinion of the season as a whole (like FujiP though Kaito's at least more thematically relevant). He does have more impact in the episodes he does appear in, but at the same time, he appears so infrequently and seems largely irrelevant otherwise, not even being mentioned outside of any episodes he does appear in. Maybe that'll change for the last third of the season or so and maybe his overall impact to the season will be something more akin to Kanata from Go Pri.
