It starts of INCREDIBLY strong. The first 20 seconds are the best part, imo. After that it's good, but feels like it drops off around 1 minute, with the whole 'crumbling statues of the characters' thing. He had a better life than them.

If you read it objectively, this is the story of a guy getting stressed out by his own society and going on a vacation to the philippines where he can oppress the locals.

In reality, the themes exist in service of Rudo, just like everything else. It's not a story about labels, trash, the disenfranchised, etc. It's a story about Rudo that exists to get published and make money, and the labels are there to seem cool and appealing. Have you seen Haikyuu? It's a volleyball anime about middle-class Japanese boys playing volleyball. That's it. The author found it necessary to insert a whole bunch of trash / garbage / crow imagery into that as well. People also label those guys without understanding "who they really are" (what does that even fucking mean?).

It's the fucking shonen handbook. It's used in everything. Labeling, underestimation. Underestimation is like the fucking fetish of asian people, every popular young adult work they make is about some guy getting labeled and underestimated by people who don't really get him, and then he awakens to some awesome power and shows then all. That's honestly another part I don't like. The 'Rudo did terrible things too' bit. I still think he was completely justified. Just because someone who was previously trying to enslave/kill you and your loved ones is no longer a threat doesn't mean you aren't allowed to feel hatred for them and want to beat the shit out of them.

Ultimately I just think I would've rather Rudo hold onto that hatred for her a bit longer, and her actually have to earn his forgiveness.

Then once in her room, Rudo tried to get the info he wanted, but she immediately derailed it to asking about the kinds of boys/girls they like. They just calmly explain that they're just here for the info, and the Amo immediately loses her shit about them trying to 'use' her, as if she didn't know they wanted to ask her about specific information.
