Yeah you're gonna have a rough time finding some since the average anime protag is in his mid to late teens, and those who are actually adults usually tends to be in their 20s instead. Kenshin Himura is in his 30s during the Hokkaido arc

The Armageddon OVA's timeline is completely different to the manga's. It might even be an entirely different universe. That's why you get a Go who's basically a clone of both Professor Saotome and his daughter, and a Kei who turned out to be a fully grown-up Genki Saotome in her mid-20s. There's being able to imagine yourself in a character's shoes, which is basically just empathy, and then there's self inserting, which from what I can gather, is just a weird narcissistic quirk where some people can only relate to a character if the character is similar enough to them to begin with. Most people say "self insert" when they really just mean experiencing empathy and relatability, but OP seems to really mean he only enjoys watching things if he can mentally insert himself in place of the MC, which is strange.

If anything, self-inserting as things you are not, such as men with trannoid tendencies who only watch yuri and cgdct, or furfags who only watch funny animal cartoons, or straight shota fags and manchildren who can't self-insert as an adult are more autistic. Also most anime (and I guess most shows and movies in general) are escapist fantasy. You are MEANT TO self-insert as the protagonist, that's what they were made for. So saying "don't self-insert, self-inserters are lame" is tantamount to saying "stop watching anime, anime is lame." Quite a thing to say on anime board.
