How do you all feel about HUGE shoulder pauldrons on your spell casters?
Do they interrupt somatic component in spell casting?
Do they look silly and impractical in general?
Do they hold aesthetic merit to the overall appeal?

I don't know... I just think they look neat.

This infograph is very elucidative on the nature of the curved staff. Most spellcasters today have a staff curved with a gem. That gem would be the spirit stone in the diagram. However, it's also possible to do an incantation without the spirit stone. Not all staff have the gem, curved or not.
