First season baited me into thinking this was going to be an actual substantial mono romance out of Japan for once, then just goes full harem and NTR bait afterward. Nothing makes Japs smear shit all over the walls like a straightforward romance between one girl and one guy.

I just can't see Kirito and Asuna without thinking of all the failed weeb relationships where the girl really wanted a Kirito x Asuna where she's the Asuna. Hard to explain but I'm in a lot of spheres/know a lot of people, or at least at the time this aired I did, and so many girls wanted to be Asuna and find their Kirito and they were all horrible people.
