Rewatching Himoutou I am once again impressed by the absolutely insane quality increase in S2, all the characters gain far more depth, charm and grow in ways you wouldn't expect from a show like this.
Sylphinford probably has the biggest growth out of them all, in S1 she was a ojou-sama who was seen as a hopeless typical rival to Umaru, which only meant to highlight how awesome capable Umaru is.
But in S2 it's shown she wants to challenge people to become their friend, and then she drops that act completely, she is happy to see Umaru succeed and doesn'T feel any bitterness, her character growth really makes me smile, feels very natural and earned.
Kirie starts connecting with people more and recongizes her jealousy and posessiveness, starts focusing on other people who aren't Umaru and decides to support Ebina in her crush.
Ebina isn't a dumbass, the reason why she gets bad marks on tests isn't because she's that inferior to Umaru-san, she just gets incredibly anxious during tests causing her to get bad marks.
Umaru hereslf is also far more likeable here, she is far nicer and recongizes she might have taken her big brother for granted and reflects on it a lot, there are far less moments in S2 where she is a huge hindrance to him, more moment is spent on her relationship with him and how important she is, including her friends.
It feels strange, I feel like people talk about S1 far more and ignore how amazing S2 is (and overall how the manga progresses as well).
