cope cope cope
you literally believe in magic
people who believe in free will are coping retards that make posit baseless assumptions to protect their own worldview. and then they are rewarded with nobels by other people that believe in magical free will.

"The assumption of nondeterminism is essential for closing these loopholes" - Anton Zeilinger

โ€œHere is the loophole: Maybe, there is in the backward cones of ourselves or of our lives, some common events which decide how we are going to set the polarizers, our choice is not really free โ€ฆ I don't want to be a physicist in that world.โ€ โ€“ Alain Aspect (Phillips and Dalibard, 2023).

โ€œBut, we maintain, skepticism of this sort will essentially dismiss all results of scientific experimentation. Unless we proceed under the assumption that hidden conspiracies of this sort do not occur, we have abandoned in advance the whole enterprise of discovering the laws of nature by experimentation.โ€ โ€“ J. F. Clauser (Shim, 1976).

โ€œThe theory that the entire experiment, including choices and outcomes, is pre-determined by initial conditions is known as superdeterminism. Superdeterminism cannot be tested.โ€ โ€“ Anton Zeilinger et al. [The BIG Bell Test Collaboration]. (Zeilinger et al., 2018).

there's no reason to assume free will exists. free will believers such as yourself, feel as though it exists, because you feel as though you're allowed to choose the words you type and you're "free" to close the tab. however every choice you make is based on prior experiences. you encountered talk about free will earlier, so when you see. the next time you're making a choice, you remember our conversation and whichever way you choose, you have internal dialogue e.g. "anon said i don't have free will so i'm going to act spontaneously to prove him wrong" -> your decisionmaking was influenced by prior circumstances, in this case, engaging with me. if you choose, in the same case, to do the predictable thing because i said you would do the unpredictable thing so that i wouldn't "win", you're also influenced by me.

every single choice you make was similarly predetermined by a trillion trillion variable. you got bullied in elementary school so as an adult your "free will" choices tend toward something like e.g. protecting the innocent. every time you make a choice, you feel as though you're making a real choice, but if time was rolled back five minutes and you didn't remember already making the choice, you would make the exact same choice after considering the exact same things you did the first time, the second time, the billionth time, each time the 5 seconds is rolled back.

basically, you're "free" to prove me wrong by quitting your job, starting a drug addiction and becoming homeless. that is to say, the absence of "free will" does not absolve you of morals or consequences, but you would have never at any point made a different choice than the one you made in the past.

there's no reason to believe we have a free will.

I found it through jjba memes in 2005-ish. I had played heritage for the future and was trying to see if I could find more about the manga/anime online. Ended up finding a flash WRYYY meme that linked to another imageboard (oneeechan IIRC) and found 4chan through it.

Peace literally can only be attained through violence. The attribution of the threat of violence is an invisible display, but yet a still-understood display of the immeasurable threat that lies in wait for those who seek to attribute their own violence which lays under the umbrella of a greater force's protection. You do not need to destroy every civilization around you in order to attain peace with them, but you do need to exist as an entity that represents either a violent reprisal to the notion of an invasion, or that of a potential violent invader in the event of terms not being considered acceptable. Through violence you can also crush those who cannot be reasoned with, will not be reasoned with, or are themselves anathema to the intent behind your future. Even if you wish to make a world totally at peace, as long as there is a sharp object and someone willing to fasten it to a stick and thrust it into someone else, you will always exist in a world where violence can and will be around every corner, and the only true answer to these unseen threats of violence is your own insurmountable similarly-unseen threat of violence.

Ironically nuclear warfare has shown the world that there is an acceptable upper-limit to the violence we are allotted to project as sovereign nations, as the nuclear threat represents a violent retribution that would destroy all of humanity. Thus we are allowed to engage in indirect proxy wars and shows and displays of force through distribution of arms and smaller states, but we cannot cross the red line or we will be forced to act on that cataclysmic threat of violence levied against one another.

You're a fucking retard. Even if we were to discount uncertainty principle (which we shouldn't), that would just mean "free will" isn't what you defined it as.

"Free will" doesn't mean "absolving yourself from causality". It's not REALITY BENDING. What you're describing is just the fact the universe operates by cause and effect. Free will is encompassed by that.

I can appreciate certain messages that anime tries to convey, like not giving up on life etc.. but nothing has ever managed to shake me to the core and made me want to try and find a new purpose or something like that.

No. And I very much any anime has changed your life or the lives of anyone who says so. What I think happens to you and everyone like you is that you see something, react like an overly emotional child. go online and say it changed your outlook on things but you never actually DO anything to show it. You like how it feels to say you changed to get people to pat you on the head for it but you're still the same boring, worthless, dead end pud you were to start with. You want to change? Go fucking outside. Fuck you.

Going outside doesn't exactly change your life on its own either. A lot of anime/manga will change your life in some way if you end up picking a hobby based on it and maybe meeting people through it, which is how things translate to real actions, but you can't just disregard internal change and growth as meaningless either.

there are many definitions for free will that have been given and used over the past thousands of years. many of them are arguably valid and the most important thing in the context of one conversation is to agree on which definition is to be used to determine whether the conversation could be fruitful even in theory.

it seems to me you agree on the fundamentals of the absence of decisionmaking but stubbornly continue to call it free will. there are many valid definitions of free will, none of which are the reality, however arguably your definition is one of the wrong ones _as while you can define strings of letters any way you want, at some point a concept ceases to have a meaning if you stare at black and insist it is white._ this is your out. this is why i started my first post by saying >>280585639 "cope cope cope". this is the cope it is referring to. clinging to a sense of agency when you know you're a gear in an unstoppable machine.

verifiably free choices require causeless causes i.e. magic, God, souls, superstition and would be defined as reality bending. everything else obeys an inevitable deterministic causal chain of physical and chemical events the acting against of which would be unthinkable. calling doing exactly what could be calculated at a certainty by measuring the state of all matter in the universe at the current moment and extrapolated from there based on classical physics should not be called free in any sense of the word.

This is retarded. When people say they have free will, they don't mean they're magical beings and gods who can break the fabric of reality and causality itself. The process of decision making and reflection RUNS on causality, this is the engine that is driving free will.

Not really. The only thing it's really done is give me a medium other than books and vidya to use for escapism. It's nice to have, and I appreciate that I can pirate it without Hollywood breathing down my neck, but nothing would be materially different if I never got into it. I'd still be a loser NEET, I'd just spend my time reading instead.
It has helped me give a name to some of my preferences though. I'd never know what to call a yandere if it weren't for anime, so I have it to thank for that.
