Did the older=better rule ever serve a true purpose? Cause even back in FSN the capabilities were all over the place. And technically this should mean servants from the Age of Gods would be the definitive strongest ones no matter what because the older era has much more mystery and mana but how this applies to servants seem to be case by case only aside Gilgamesh.

Fate makes a point of telling you right at the beginning.
"Heroes became heroes by making the impossible possible and overcoming unbeatable odds."

Yes the Older a hero the stronger they tend to be but by the sheer nature of them being heroes means they can and do over come powerlevels. The Powerlevels are mostly there so you understand just how dangerous the threat is.

The main point imo is because Nasu loves the idea of modern day people/society destroying older, more magical, powerful beings.

It's why all his stories has fight scenes where modern day man MC beats the representation of GOATs from the past.

It's not set in stone but yeah generally that should be the case. Fame of the servant and their feats feel like bigger factors than how far back they come from though.

The only rule in Fate is 'whoever I like the most at the time wins'. You can get a whole mini novel listing all the different ways in which Gilgamesh is invincible and yet he'll still get rolled by some literal who, because the story will create an impossible scenario where the stars align in the underdog's favor.

Enjoyment of Fate increases tenfold once you give up thinking and accept that all the rules are a joke, and that they only exist so it feels cooler when they're broken 5 minutes later. It's all about hyping you, the reader, up.

THEORETICALLY Shiki can kill anything. Theres a rather arbitrary limit on his powers where he has to be able to "process" their death and trying to do that with too mystical of a threat can make him die. Ryougi Shiki can bypass that limit by offloading the processing to Gaia but even that has its limits.

>>280581342 (OP)
What thats referencing is largely their noble phantasms. And its just a handicap when you get down to it to balance out how much simpler someone like Gilgamesh thinks compared to someone like Archer. Gilgamesh would never snipe someone but Archer flat out would so him having club exclusive shit like Ea is to sustain that mindset.

Extra Record when god dammit

'rules' as they exist in the nasuverse are only rules of thumb.
saying a human can't beat a servant is like saying a human can't beat tetris

Likely so. The stats of heroes seem to have no dependence on their age or era (though this comes with weird implications that people like Nero, Drake and Vlad are born superhumans). This still had the hiccup that Excalibur shouldnโ€™t be the strongest Holy Sword though subsequent entries clarified itโ€™s a pre-historic weapon forged 14.000 years ago.
