this is dealt with in the zoltrack meta. defensive magic blocks, but not if you pour more mana into the attack, but then you can just layer defensive magic or use defensive magic to delay the impact and dodge. but then you can also attack from many different directions and if both sides understand the obvious tactics that come into play then it just turns into a war of attrition.

Yeah, some lunatic actually managed to create a spell that can "cut almost anything" somehow. And in most people's hands it doesn't amount to much. But it's pretty clear that no one's managed to create an unblockable beam, nor an unbreakable shield spell.

You know what this manga creator should do if he wasn’t a hack? Have the Empire send DEMONS to assassinate Frieren’s party. Why wouldn’t they? Demons are strong, and in the era of there being no demon king or demon society then, naturally, governments will have the bright idea of using demons. If they occasionally cause some damage it’s worth it to the higher-ups, and with the state of human magic they can feel sufficiently in control to make it worth the risk for them. Demons who grew up in this situation would just think it’s natural. How would Frieren handle THAT development? The nation Flamme created now supporting and using demons against humans? Is she really going to use the same excuses again like she has no personal stake in it? Lol, do it coward I dare you.
