It is about to be the third anniversary of Manga Plus Creators...
And nothing of value has came out of it yet. This tells me that gaijin just can't create manga. When is Shueisha going to cut their losses and get rid of it?
Anonymous No.280613526 [Report] >>280613644
Very few competent gaijin artists are going to spend time making manga when the hurdles to becoming a gaijin mangaka are so tall, and the pathway to success is unpaved.

It's like the 4-minute mile. Once a single gaijin artist makes a big successful manga, the floodgates will open.

Yes, you are encouraged to do so. They awarded an AI manga about an American Slave.

Sure it got an anime but it's not really a "big" success. I meant something at least Black Clover tier.

They are probably excited to draw manga until they realize they have to work 20hrs per day and sleep 1 or 2 hours everyday.

1-3 years of nothing is fairly normal for projects like this

The good ones already have their own websites or already have exclusive deals with sites like Webtoons and Tapas.
Give it 5-8 years and let some mediocre gaijin crap rise into fame. The traffic should increase and the good artists would start taking second glances at it and may think it's worth the hastle of uploading there
Anonymous No.280614937 [Report] >>280615033
It's likely relatively low resources to continue, and if it someday generates one successful IP it would have been worth it. Same reason why Kadokawa is pushing JNC to try to develop some English LNs.

Everyone capable in the west is just making webtoons.

>or already have exclusive deals with sites like Webtoons and Tapas.
Aren't webtoons and tapas also shitting the bed?
I don't think this whole "gaijin manga" thing is ever going to work out, because put simply, most westerners are not willing to pay for comics, especially webcomics.
This stuff really only works if you're running a patreon or something or have one of those awful webcomics that's been running for like 20 years and just got grandfathered in by sponging off of a decently-sized audience of autists.
Plus, I think "manga" does tend to attract a specific audience, and the paying side of that audience isn't really looking for western stuff.

I know that WT is dying because they made their indie contracts much more jewish
They used to give like 10% for ad revenue if you can have 100k views/month. They got rid and screw over plenty of already successful comics

They did it because they wanted to promote their "exclusive" deals wherein their contracts allow them to own the comics and hold even more control over the creative vision. Many artists are now warning people over it

The idea with this kind of platform is while the publisher may have low expectations, but with a wide net there is always the chance (even if not a great chance) to get an actually potentially successful title. If something were to show up that was likely to be a commercial success, it would be treated like any other work being positioned to develop an IP and pushed heavily elsewhere.

> when the hurdles to becoming a gaijin mangaka are so tall
You only have to know Japanese and be able to draw. Just submit your material to any publisher you want, just like a normal Japanese.
You can also apply to be an assistant (they're constantly looking for background artists) or take part in an award.
Working digitally at home is completely normal these days.
There's no reason to apply to Manga Plus Creators.

After No/Name flopped in Japan, I don't think anyone will get a serialization ever again

A western artist who can draw in a nice anime style is rare enough, add onto that also being able to tell a good story and speak fluent Japanese, and you're basically looking for a unicorn.

Style doesn't matter, there's a lot of variety in Japan.
Story isn't important, if the editors like your art they can pair you up with a writer or have you work on an adaption.
You have Taiwanese and South Koreans active in the industry because they learn Japanese in school. People from SEA could also apply.

unpopular opinion: this platform exists for the sole purpose of stealing ideas, it is well known that the Japanese have many stories in manga and light novels, but they have reached a point where they are repeating themselves, it is often said that japan is an aging country, and this applies to the creation of original content

Did No Name not start off from Mangaplus Creators? Maybe I'm wrong there. Either way even though it got axed in Jump+ I think the artist could totally make it as long as they're paired with a better writer next time.

>There's no reason to apply to Manga Plus Creators.
This, the known methods if getting published as a gaijin include
>getting recruited by an editor after submitting to and winning global manga contests (like the Medibang ones)
>getting recruited by an editor on pixiv/twitter from comics/illustrations
>having some kind of in like being in the anime industry, from which it's easier to pitch manga ideas to publishers that work with the studios you've worked with
Afaik a platform like Mangacreators where you're throwing art into the void is among the least effective ways to actually get published.

This platform is a freakin’ revolution, giving dope artists from outside Japan a chance to flex their skills and drop some chef’s kiss manga that’s just as fire as anything from Shonen Jump. Like, the diversity? The creativity? The sheer audacity to let Westerners cook in this sacred art form? It’s giving inclusivity, it’s giving global vibes, it’s giving slay! Gold, Silver, Bronze awards? Cash prizes? Serialization chances? Bruh, this is the future, and I’m HERE for it!

those 4chan edgelords are out here seething in their crusty basements, clutching their katanas and whining about “Westernization ruining manga.” Like, LMAO, get a grip, chuds! Your gatekeeping is straight-up problematic—y’all are just mad that people who don’t look like your waifu body pillows are making banger manga. Accusing Western creators of “tainting” the medium? Sounds like some thinly veiled racist nonsense to me. Y’all really out here acting like only Japan can make manga while ignoring that art doesn’t have borders, you culture-vulture weirdos. Manga Plus Creators is out here uplifting diverse voices, and you’re crying because it’s not your same old battle shonen? Cope harder, bigots!

They can try pulling a George Lucas/Togashi and directly own the IP or have massive sway in the company. Granted Lucas got the whole IP because the studio thought the first Star Wars would be a dud and Togashi had several manga under his belt before he was able to negotiate on stronger terms for later works

I don't know, the awards where people have to submit to "win" seem like it's good enough for gathering the talent rather than wasting space (and money) on all this shit constantly uploaded by people who suck at both writing and drawing. That one international Tezuka award got a lot of international coverage during COVID too even if the winning works were nothing special.
