I caught up with the manga today, twas good, turns out it's not gay, so far, doesn't seem like it will be.

Well it was originally supposed to be a BL oneshot, so it shouldn't come as a surprise. And the mangaka is a they/them subhuman that describes the manga as a coming of age story with queer themes.
