The manga ended. So it's time to have a final dump before season two drops.

Chapter 129: The Disheveled Hero Makes His Return...
>>280659158 (OP)He didn't end up with anyone. Absolute KEK ending. 0 romantic progress with Mina and 0 romantic progress with best girl Kikoru who he actually deserved to be with.
Should've at least hinted they were dating, or him being 3rd in command or something.
So even if they're not there YET, they will get there.

It's always really confused me why people like this series. It's very clearly an awesome oneshot, that the author had zero clue how to manage as a series. Not only that, but the art is fucking HORRIBLE for a non-weekly manga.
k8 is 5/10 slop at its finest. I cannot think of something more 5/10 than it.
The fact that they're not even slightly HINT that they are dating is the craziest part. Cuck ending

>>280664909>Is there a term for a final big bad fight that just takes way too fucking long?Symptom of character bloat, especially when you don't make enough villains to match the number of heroes. When you don't have enough side villains, or memorable side villains (Kaiju no 8 had all the numbered kaiju #9 made for the final battle, but literally none of them mattered) your good guys end up having to share the final villain. Which means a hilariously drawn out fight where the villain endlessly tanks every side characters attacks as they each need to get their own "Moment", until eventually only the MC is left who proceeds to finish them off.
MHA is the best example of this, where the final arc is just side characters throwing their shit at Shiggy and him shrugging it off with regeneration until Deku punches him to dust. Still bad but slightly less than that is JJK, where Sukuna becomes a nonthreatening joke who can barely kill anybody as every side character gets away with taking potshots on him. Muzan is probably the least egregious case, since the upper moons manage to do some work and take out some Hashira's themselves, so the final fight isn't the entire demon corps taking turns fucking him up the ass. Still a major case of regeneration spam being used way too much though.

I think another big thing is that we know basically nothing about #9 on a personal level. And then #9 himself is basically dead halfway through the final fight and replaced with the mega kaijuu thing that is shooting magic symbol slices and shit without any real explanation as to what the fuck it is or how it's doing all this.
That's kinda what makes the status quo ending feel so shallow here. It all just amounted to another big ass kaijuu without explaining anything about why it's so special.

Turns out Kafka was the true cuck in the end.
Hasn't been "good" since the grandpa guy died, but even then, I think calling the stuff before that "good" is being generous. Its major problem is that Kaiju 9 feels like an arc villain (who serves to introduce the concept of intelligent kaijus into the story), and yet he somehow lived past that and became the main villain. All without changing and just staying as bland and personality-less as ever. Add in an extremely undeveloped side cast, and absolute glacial pacing, and it's no wonder that the love for it kind of went away.

>>280677122"Mystery box" just means "make it up as you go along", which is what battle shonen authors have been doing since Dragon Ball
>>280677164It's more than just making things up. The key of the mystery box is to present a important, tension driving mystery in order to trick the audience into getting invested under the illusion that there is an answer already in the box that will be revealed.
It's the appearance that there's been some thought put into the story, where as in truth it's only the appearance with no substance behind it. But by doing this and playing on the audience's gullibility, it provides justification for them to read into every little thing under the belief that it must all fit together. Obvious this then feeds into making it up as you go along, but by pretending there's some secret behind everything, you trick people into taking it as if it's not.
Dragonball made shit up as it went along, but it was never a mystery box because it was never hyping up some mystery or secret and promising that there was a proper answer already developed for it.

There's a clear win condition and end goal in mind, compared to JJK/MHA where the final villain constantly regenerates until the mangaka feels like ending the manga. >>280684139>lacked imagination to think of weak points for every single Kaijuthis would cause the organization to be bunch of useless idiots if a janitor knows all the weak points.
>setting could have at least made for a cool Monster Hunter/Lost Planet/Earth Defense Force type game
>just gets a gacha that will probably EoS in a year instead
Sad
So what the fuck was this thing even? Is it made up of the souls of dead Nippon Samurai donos? How was it created?
>>280675499It's a curse left behind by the seething of thousands.
>>280685880How is any kaijuu created?
We learned basically nothing about them over the course of this series.
I respect this mangaka's hustle. He tried to get into shounen jump a couple times from what I've read. He then made the most generic tropey manga known to man and finally got in. Got a TV anime too, and then finished up and dipped.
>>280683550fuck you nigger, Ameri is a thousand times better than Mina
don't you DARE try to compare them
also iruma is set for a harem end because the demon lord does what he pleases
>>280686762They just...show up and apparently have showed up for thousands of years. I don't remember there being an explanation on what they are in the flashback either.
>>280661237It was such a meh ending but it's gonna get "hype moments" and "aura" in the anime so zoomies are gonna love it
>>280687374Maybe it will get an epilogue that wraps up all the loose ends. Like how Bisque Doll got an epilogue showing the two of them married with a kid
>>280664641THIS. What's even the point of making a 30yo protag if you're gonna make him act exactly like a 14yo teenager? the ONLY time Kafka acted like an adult was in the very beginning where he almost sacrificed himself to save Ichiru
>>280687520>What's even the point of making a 30yo protag if you're gonna make him act exactly like a 14yo teenager? It's a reflection of Japan as a whole and the author's life experiences of peace and complacency. I don't think that he consciously thought
>Today I will set out to make a story about a 30 year old who is the exact same as the 15 year olds who blush at seeing some underwearThese guys grew up on this kind of stuff themselves which then shapes and defines their writing, either because he is chasing trends to appeal to other people who are young or due to the wrong influences. It is going to be a horrible feedback loop until something terrible IRL breaks it.
>>280682244even the ranking thing is done better. "Kids in a military academy competing to top the ranks" is the most generic shit you can get, but the manga subverts it completely by making the MC not give a fuck about ranking at all and instead trying to figure out who killed his dad
>>280661237sounds like it will get a sequel, won't it?
>>280687747That sounds like the plot to unbreakable machine doll but too bad it's garbage except for the ED.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFVzZtjz3aA
>>280687501Most mangas get epilogues in the final volume release this days
>>280664909>Why do these authors feel like they need to have the final fight go on for like a year or more of the manga?Faggot.
This is a great trope, read Ushio no Tora, the whole manga is about fighting Hakumen no Mono, and the final battle is incredible (and like 20% of the manga).
>>280661698Odds are that's the name of the sequel.
>>280685157Well all the organization relied on before was brute force. Not a useless approach but it is a simple one yes. The problem became when Kafka relied on it too.
>>280661237Thank you for posting.
This feels like someone read Jagaaaaaan and decided to remove anything that was good about it

>>280694389Lmao, nice catch
>>280684139Given earlier good ideas (also the fact that Kafka was uncovered relatively soon) itโs probably the author had ideas for a cohesive story, then the success brought him to add more characters and tried to expand things, failing.
Blame nips and their love for every giga monster.
>>280686959Yeah, itโs done way worse, but as Iruma wants to improve to stand with Ameri, so does Kafka.
Of course demon lord is more based.
>>280672793as someone said, it feels like an early axed manga but stretched over 200 chapters
>>280691490nobody trying to study dead monster bodies is some horseshit, even Independence Day got this right
the premise and execution somehow managed to be even more generic than demon slayer
it will sell 10 billion copies
>>280695810>>280686959Lets not forget that Ameri actually made a move on Iruma last month
I feel conflicted now about continuing the anime
>>280696214That made the obvious blueball more annoying
It's over? Did they really only fight one guy?
>>280661688You actually can't astroturf a shonen into popularity even in a age that favors style over substance
>>280696627ummm they fought like TWO guys ok, it's different.
What a waste of a great design.
Mina was a real cool beauty
>>280695466What am i looking at?
>>280697063The characters looks the same but mirrored. Maybe they are implying the artist did a shoddy copy paste.
>>280697145this is incredibly common in literally everything
>>280697230yeah but it's pretty lazy to do it at the last chapter
i did my part by telling my friend to avoid this very below average manga when he asked me about it
I regret buying the manga. I'm gonna go sell it now lmao
It was a painfully subpar manga but I still bought the merch because Kafka is really cute
>>280660583Yeah, they're kaiju.
>>280660725Wasn't she using 3? The gimp suit, the axe and the eyes.
>>280660958What does that even mean?
>>280673038You should start proofreading your posts then.
>>280698948yeah, but the axe was a regular kaiju weapon iirc, not one of the numbers (the superweapons). I think they said she could use 4 of the numbers, and yeah she was using the suit and the eyes simultaneously.
>>280699387The axe have 003 written on it, like all number weapons.
>>280682175Yeah, they're pretty cute.
>>280686783Yeah, he's been a mangaka for a couple of decades so let him have some success.
>>280691490Ah, the classic "everyone else is stupid so MC can look smart" setup
>>280661237I liked it, it's not the best seriex but I had fun reading it, even if it dropped the better initial concept, it was entertaining.
I liked the clean / anime like art as well. If there is a continuation / part 2 I hope it dwelves better into the world, the origin of kaijus, etc...
Not going ot miss it Like Ron or SKK Girls, for example, but it was nice.
>>280699546Alright then, guess I blanked on that. Thank you, anon.
>>280702963I don't think they ever elaborated on the special property of the axe.
I want to enjoy every inch of Kikoru
Kikoru is discount Konami, change my mind
I unironically enjoyed this series. It's a battle shonen, and nothing can be as bad as Naruto or SOA.
It had hype moments and aura that was decently effective, and my only complaint is Kafka's secret was revealed too early in the story and had almost no impact.
But aside from that it's a generic satisfying ending. For me it's a 8/10, it did it's job and it did it in a fun way and thats all I can ask for a battle shonen
and i want to fuck Kikoru so badly its unreal
>>280704281It took until Naruto's final arc for it to get irredeemably bad
Kaiju No. 8 was mediocre from start to finish
>>280704117I'm hitting you with my best telepathic waves.
Season 1 was good so will keep watching.
Itโs remarkable what the anime managed to do with this. No story at all, though itโs also kind of based that nips fell in love with this for absolutely no other reason than dakka and gas masks
>>280660037Iโve already read the chapter and Iโve already forgotten most of their names kek
>>280675499I picked this up for her. And also dropped it over her, but still, I feel pretty fucking cheated.
>>280661154>Finally think of a tactical forensics squad>On one panel in the last chapterCouldโve had an actual plot before the imprisonment nonsense. Couldโve showcased actual varied monsters of the week and turned them into battle suits and war hammers for backgroundiesโ characterizations. What was this manga even about
>>280667244With how much marketing they pushed on it I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't actually as profitable as it comes off. Shueisha invests a shitton of money to make upcoming series they're investing in seem like the next big thing. Sometimes it works things really do go uber mainstream like Spy x Family and JJK and sometimes it doesn't really work with Kaiju #8. It's like how people will think a 300 million dollar box office sounds like a lot of profits but it could actually be a loss if the studio spent 150 million making the movie and 150 million on the marketing.
>>280674519These individually gauging mook suits made with monster cells were the only good contribution of this manga to fiction. Cool concept.
>>280659544For me, it had great delivery on the fights, but I read the series starting in December and didn't run into pacing issues/gaps between chapters until then. If you just wanted something quick to read for interesting fights it was perfect for that, which was its intention, since the mangaka has said he's drawn itto be easy to read on mobile, and that's likely why it's so popular.
>>280675499Honestly thought it was fine since she was blatantly shown to be mindbroken by the job and years of grizzled leadership just made her a stoic boss. What we should've seen was a smattering of private life moments with Kafka. Why the heck was this guy spending a day off at the grocery store instead of wine and dining his osananajimi?
>>280665314The war arc was a ton of fights that was properly built up with a large cast people cared about, and it also dropped an antagonist that made the readers excited for the first time in a while.
The actual final fight was the Sasuke duel, but even the one before that (Kaguya) wasn't that long. I would say that KnY's final fight was closer to that than JJK, but it is a fact that these two series (and now Kaiju No. 8) spent a lot of time on basically one actual fight, with the chief villain. Naruto didn't do that.
Bleach didn't do it, either, TTYB lasted a long time but Yhwach's actual fight was like 2 chapters.
>>280706360the fights were awful, the mangaka can't draw action
>>280664054>this is just modern japanese writter not having contact with women or social skills in generals.Let's be real here, modern women will always make you regret having contact with them.
>>280660732He didn't end up with ANY girl, that's the point.
>>280659667>Get in the car>>280660111>Welcome home uguu~I hate faggotshit man. Disgusting fujo trash. They ruin every series.
>>280708230During the final battle it seemed pretty much clear for Kafka and Mina to be set together (him saving her, her displayed jealousy, their duo being labeled as the strongest in the world).
But then in the final chapter the best we got was that small talk at the hospital, where se was trying to say something but stopped.
This author really couldnโt handle characters speaking outside battles, relax spin off managed to do a lot better with little
>>280682076>>280682162>>280682175>>280682212Also would have been nice if she got to catch Kafka to subvert picrel.
>>280679639Yeah, but it would have been more interesting than another Naruto rehash.
>>280708654There would probably be some tease at their relationship in Relax, or maybe if another spin off comes out
>>280678569Doesn't sound like it
>>280708697NTA but that's true. It wouldn't have been as recycled.
who's the biggest fraud in this series?
>>280678715matsui get away with a lot of shit (literally)
>>280682076>>280682162>>280682175This in the main manga would have made it so much better.
>>280660375Who the fuck are Gukki and Tsukinoren?
i feel like this manga should have been longer. it could have benefited from an extra 100 chapters to flesh out some of the other character, do some more world building, and explore more of the kaiju.
maybe they'll make a sequel or prequel.
>>280715862It was funny watching the Hoshina's Day Off ova since a retired Defense Force soldier brought up hoping the kaiju threat comes to an end eventually so that the next generation of children don't have to battle them and that clearly is not the case with how the manga concludes.
>>280685880Your interest in answers you were meant to be interested in makes writing very difficult. Stop it.
>>280687024Seems like retarded worldbuilding for humans to stand any chance against Kaiju before heavy powered weaponry.
did this get axed? I can't imagine this being super popular with such a horrible mc
>>280720517129 chapters and a SoL spinoff seems like a pretty decent run
>>280720987guess so. I'll never get nip taste
>>280708461It keeps happening.
