No, it was actually awful. The show justifies and glorifies child abuse, internalized child abuse, and backstabbing your friends. It shits all over Kanno's character repeatedly, and expects her to be thankful for it.
The big 'payoff' of the show where Kanno cries tears of joy because her abusive mother (who had completely abandoned her and refused to recognize her as a person) agreed to call her by her actual name, made me physically ill.
Even in the threads where anons were arguing whether Mahiru backstabbing Kanno was justified (fuck no it wasn't), nobody expected her mom to get off scott free. But she did, and Kanno was portrayed as the one being in the wrong.
It is one of the most vile pieces of media I have watched.
