It wasn't a good arc even with all the fixing in the volumes it just wasn't a great idea to center an arc around Roberta being some crazy whore and having two snot nose kids try to chastised a bunch of criminals being criminals, Hiroe always did a good job of balancing the straight edge shit with some grounded realism so things don't come off as too dour in the setting, the Yakuza arc is a great example of that despite how depressing it was. Roberta’s arcs were bland and uninteresting, they turned everyone into horror movie victims just trying to avoid her instead of being more proactive like fits their characters and its writing because more simplistic "muh dark and much light" that makes it hard to take seriously, Rock's final convo with Chang is great though and almost saves the arc in a way.

I disagree entirely. Roberta I think is one of the less interesting characters to me, and RBT isn't my favorite arc, but while the arc is centered around her going completely ape, what you get to see the most of is all the other characters dealing with the situations around this.
Again, I hated it when it was running because of the release schedule mauling the pacing, but when I got to read it again years later, and I could just read it all in a refined form in one go, I actually enjoyed it quite a lot, the action and character interactions are quite good in my opinion.

Best part of the arc is Rock and Chang's bet which is at odds with Roberta's revenge plot because everyone is so ambivalent towards Roberta's life and the kids that it only makes the ending even more infuriating.

Well just have to agree to disagree then, I've read the arc like three times (Magazine version, volume twice) and its still not very good but its also not bad to Hiroe's credit Black Lagoon does not have a single bad arc and he cod have let the reception get to him abd stagnant but he keep pressing on and I do think the new arcs are considerably better despite the slow releases.

i prefer roberta's blood trail being non canon
