The Darkness fruit is a hito hito model Davy Jones. It seems like it's just a Darkness fruit, but it actually allows the user to access Davy Jones' locker which is a pocket dimension of darkness where he can keep object and/or people enslaved "in his locker".
Blackbeard (or Xebec if he's actually taken over BB's body) keeps someone in there that he fed WB's power to and since he "enslaved" that person through the fruit power, he can wield their power as well.

It's kind of how Makima operates in CSM. By using the fruit power to have another person or entity "in the locker" BB can use that person's power as well.

It would also contrast Luffy's power. Nika the god of freedom vs Davy Jones, the god of enslavement.

If you consider the Devil Fruit explanation in Drsssrosa, they say each Devil fruit has the soul of a devil inside. Once a person who ate the fruit dies, the soul moves onto another nearby fruit to reincarnate.
But the Yami Yami no mi who can seemingly swallow the devil fruit powers, does this mean that the Devil Fruit's soul gets locked inside? Is that it's secret? Eating two devil fruits would result in them tearing apart one's body but Marco said Blackbeard's body was special. Perhaps the Davy Jones bloodline has the unique ability of serving as a container to all Devil fruit abilities if it wished to be so, with the Devil Fruit itself as it's cataclysm.
Perhaps the Yami Yami no mi is not special, but considering that BB looked for it specifically it indicates to me that it is what allows him to make use of his bloodline's unique properties.

Imu and Blackbeard both seem to linger in Darkness, Imu and Blackbeard both use powers that serve to enslave, one is the Devil and the other Darkness. If there was a role for the two I'd say the Earth God would be it for BOTH. Fitting, as the Earth God was the first Sun, and due to its nature it could only become half a sun, BB and Imu complement each other's halves is what I believe.

At that point in the manga we don't know what Imu can do to the gorosei if they fail. Later on we find out. That makes the gorosei much more enslaved than let's say Lucci or Kaku. It's kind of a role reversal a bit. We think Lucci is talking to a superior that has freedom to act, but Mars was more of a slave than Lucci is.

The problem is that every single other character in the manga he encountered was fellating him nonstop. And for no good reason either. Even characters that barely knew him were dickriding within seconds.

If you look above Imu's throne there's a grand line diagram with the sign of the WG that looks like the poneglyph X marks the spot diagram.
It basically means that the place that the poneglyphs point to is right there, but as you say likely "beneath" the red line in a cave.

And then after Loki was fed, he got the comically engorged gut that Luffy and Zoro and other "heroes" get after a big meal.
I'm struggling to think of a single time when Oda drew someone like Croocdile, Enel, or Rob Lucci with a big distended gut after a meal, it doesn't happen. His dark brooding serious criminals never do. It's not a state they are "allowed" to indulge in (Katakuri is different, I can explain why if you care)
But once Loki got it, coincidentally we started getting hints that the stories about him might not be entirely truthful. The reader was starting to trust Loki, and he even got invited onto the crew. He's a fan favorite right now. Even his evil baby eyes are seen as cute, a deformity that "good" characters are allowed to have.
But since last chapter, I've been thinking. Who else has a romantic relationship with food? Blackbeard. His cherry pies were a literal drawn parallel to Luffy's meat. Blackbeard is also seen partying it up on Hachinosu, once again something only the heroes are typically allowed to indulge in. Crocodile? Would never. Kaido is allowed to have a destructive relationship with drink, but it's dissimilar. Nothing like the joyous grin Blackbeard had while enjoying his pies when he thought nobody was watching.
So basically, it's a double fakeout. Oda is using writing technique to make you feel a certain way about Loki, then the other. And my suspicion is that it's going to flip again.

I think in particular situation, Luffy was more concerned about the people because Vivi cared about the people and Luffy only cared about them by proxy. The whole Alabasta arc was them trying to prevent a civil war, so caring about collateral civilian damage would make sense here. Also, wasn't that the old man that gave Luffy water?
