The bigger problem is the fucked pacing. Ep0 introduced the MC and her traumatic backstory, which works to build sympathy. Ep1 introduced the rest of the cast and a dire situation, but didn't have enough time to flesh any of them out. Ep2 spent too much time showing off their epic familiars and their powers (but who cares, because they're barely characters at this point), and then ended on the tragic death of a character that was introduced five minutes before.
That's not how script writing works.
