Different book, though I'd be surprised if that design wasn't mentioned in any of the references she used. The main difference is that the boning doesn't extend down to the hip, where there is instead less rigid cording for ease of movement. It's very popular as a modern design too.

The actual relationship between Emma and William is unexciting, most of their drama comes from external forces.
