Have you ever regretted going to an anime convention?
No since I've never been to one.
>Trans Island
What a nightmarish place Canada must be
Never, always great time with crossdressing guys
>>280718378That's what I was thinking when I saw the address.
>>280718231 (OP)Yeah that exact one for the last few years.
It's been more of a crowd navigation simulator than an anime con.
I went to one and the level of regret is more that I didn't really do much and didn't talk to anyone, being at an anime con didn't make me more social and it was ultimately a waste of time and money
>>280718445I felt the same last year. I went with one of my apartment roommates but we went to do separate thing to see to plan our schedule. But I got screwed over a couple of panels, workshop because it was too crowded before you start moving from one room to a waiting line for the next.
I ended up going to re-watch Maomao's 3 first episodes in a viewing screen and then Bleach with the 3 first episode with the Thousand Blood War but I didn't get to talk much with anyone during the wait time between panels.
It was so crowded that I was sweating just by walking in plain t-shirt and shorts. I could not imagine the heat for the people with full suit cosplay.
>>280718445Yeah, thatโs why I wouldnโt want to go to one unless I were cosplaying. Otherwise, I would just be walking around the market area, not talking to anyone.
>>280718231 (OP)I mainly go for the merch and to buy fanart.
>>280718445I get you. I also always feel down after a con; it sort of rubs it in my face that there's a lot of people around me who are in the same stuff I am into. Lot of normalfags, but also people with greater power levels than me I could get along with for an hour or two. But cons don't offer much room to actually organically connect with other con-goers without straight-up cold approaching them.
No clue how people hook up and have orgies at these things when I can't even find a way to casually talk to someone about the Akumetsu mask they're wearing.
No, honestly. Artist alleys are usually pretty cool and at the very least, me and the boys will rent a hotel room and get drunk/have a party all weekend. I turn it into more of a fun time centered around the con rather than relying on the con for fun itself.
>get shafted into going to an anime con by my friend
>half the events are chinese or american cartoons
>guess I'll go to the Shin Megami Tensei event
>they're playing Jeopardy and not actually discussing anything about SMT
>guess I'll go to the fighting game presentation
>some guy is talking about fighting game fundamentals
>gives a demonstration
>he clearly has only been playing fighting games for 20 hours
>uses autocombos, doesn't even know how to block, just mashing buttons and directions
>guess I'll go buy some merch
>overpriced Demon Slayer, One Piece, Dragon Ball, Naruto, gacha trash, gacha trash, gacha trash
>guess I'll go to the Kabuki event
>It's more japanese musical theater than kabuki, but whatever, it's fine.
>guess I'll go to the cosplay corner
>all the cosplayers are fat, or hairy men in drag
>guess I'll go to the "Midnight Hentai Senpai (18+)" event
>so Anon, what's your favorite hentai?
>uuuhhhh, Boku no Pico I guess?
>Anon...
>I think you should leave...
>guess I'll go home then
it's not worth it bros
>go browse doujin because it's the only thing left that's not crowded to death since the great 2020 normalfag invasion
>packs of normoids come up every 2 minutes to snicker and act like fags
We should've gatekept harder
I would never go to a non-japanese con, that is for sure.
>>280720528My local rock and mineral convention is great, be sure to check yours out next chance you get
>>280720564are there thick rock ladies
>>280720564I meant anime con, of course.
I've been to my local biker con before, which was a lot of fun. It even had strippers for some reason.
>>280718231 (OP)it's worthless unless you're looking to bang cosplay sluts
Going to a local con next weekend, how do I find an otaku wife? I'm 35 btw.
>>280720945Why are you trying to be me?
Either way I got this t-shirt for myself last year, but the illustration was from the year before.
I didn't like the 2024 t-shirt design.
>>280718231 (OP)I only went to Comiket once so far and I didn't regret it. I'd like to check out some of the minor comfier ones too like Puniket or Comitia next time I go to Japan.
>>280718378You need to use some form of TRANS-port to get there. You also need to do a TRANS-action to get the tickets or buy food. I heard they even have TRANS-lated anime goods.
>going to an anime convention?
nu-/a/ everyone
>>280722449First time I went to Otakuthon was in 2007 when I was an underage teenager.
I went to a few cons in the early days (pre 2010) and only started going again last year. Did I miss out on the golden age?
>>280723415Yes. They are infested with normalfags and diversity now.
>>280723415Yeah it's just insane crowds of gachashitter normals now
>>280718231 (OP)No, but then again the last time I went was back in 2007. These days over half the presentations in my country's biggest con (which they upload to youtube) are basically just gender studies lectures with some anime stuff slapped on top. Back in the day when someone made a presentation/panel about BL or traps they were at least made from the angle of "I'm a fan of this stuff, this is why I think this stuff is fucking cool and here's some recs for you", but now they're just using anime as an excuse to talk about society and real life politics and whine about -ism of some kind. It's all just normalfag nonsense now.
>>280718231 (OP)I have never gone to an anime convention. I will never go to an anime convention.
>>280718231 (OP)When I was younger I wanted to go to anime conventions but never did because I was worried people around me would think I was "cringe" and a "nerd"
Now I'm in my 30s and want to go but I won't because I would be embarrassed to go to one only to discover everyone else is a teenager and I'm the only grown up around
I know you are not supposed to care what others think but what can I say, I do care
I wish I didn't
But I do
>>280718231 (OP)They're the only thing getting me outta the house these days.
>>280724257Considering the only times I go outside is to wage slave, it's the only time of the year for a 3-day that I wait for the next year con and plan on advance my vacation week and Montreal is the closest. I don't like to drive so I just go with one of my apartment roommates and I can't even go outside Canada since I still don't have my passport.
Yes it was exactly what I expected, I went to one in the UK called Kitacon I think. Cost as much as a videogame to get in to wander sparse booths, watch unfunny skits and generally be around the most irritating people ever. Also went to our biggest one in London which was equally terrible. No Japanese guests just shitty dubfag actors who I hear molested underage girls
Conventions are not anime.
>>>/cgl/
>>280718231 (OP)The anime conventions in my country are boring, and the tickets are ridiculously expensive.
>>280724940But you get to watch anime at viewing screen during those events or get to buy manga volumes, no?
>>280724940I really wish there was some place we could talk about japanese culture and the community surrounding it without having to compete with v-tumors and 2hufags. Oh if only /jp/ was good
>>280724940/cgl/ is too slow as a board to discuss an anime you might have seen an anime convention.
>>280725554Plus it's full of the bitchiest, cattiest females on the entire planet
