The premise of the parasytes organising themselves to ensure their survival draws obvious parallels to the subplot in the source material with the mayor of the neighbouring city, though the show distinguishes itself by also drawing inspiration from Korea's religious cults. The overall storyline deviates from the character-driven manga and goes for a more typical thriller style. It's a pretty different flavour if you were expecting something closer to the manga/anime, but I think it was done well enough. However, as a result the show also dials down the philosophical discussion aspects that defined the original, but there are still some parts of it here and there.
The thing that bugged me the most was that sometimes the parasytes came across as too human, especially the protagonist's. It definitely seems a lot more empathetic than the detached savageness of Migi.
Tl;dr: Parasytes are slower, more animalistic but look stronger and more physically active. Decently written characters, interesting premise. Good characters, although sometimes the parasytes are a little too human. 8/10.
