The line between being simple and being enlightened is not well defined.
Smoothbrains and high IQs won't question themselves, but the latter often don't because they already did once and reached an conclusion. Midwits are smart enough to question themselves but too stupid to reach answers, leading them to doubt themselves. Because of this midwits don't enjoy things like others do. They start questioning why they enjoy something, and then just stop enjoying that because they can't justify it.
Trigger knows that single and triple digit IQs can enjoy the same things and midwits are often a crapshoot. So they make what they make and the midwits find reasons to not enjoy it.
