My theory is that Nano was created as a daughter by an adult or elderly hakase, later hakase reversed her age either by accident or it was intentional but she got too young or it was intentional but she didn’t expect her mind to become of a child as well so we ended with a teenager robot having to take care of her deaged creator. This explains why a child is living alone and we don’t have adults coming to check on her.
