Sugita sucks
Bro has like zero range. I don't understand why /a/ loves him. Most of the time it feels like he's just reading the script. If not for his voice no one would care about him. He's one of the few male voice actors with non faggy voice and that's it.

most seiyuu don't have range or use 1 type of voice on purpose. because they're all typecasted.
Think of Koyasu, Tsuda Kenjiro, Norio Wakamoto, Ryusei Nakao and Hayami Saori.
Seiyuu with insane range like Yuki Aoi are rare.
Minase Inori has great range too, but she's already permanently typecasted into voicing cute moe-archetype

Range is a meme. You just need to find a niche and stick with it.

It's almost like acting ability is more important. Shocking.

Bro just look at his performance with Karasuma from Assassination Classroom. The fact that he can pull off a 100% straight-laced serious type like Karasuma while being more known for comedic roles like Gintoki or Joseph Joestar is proof that he's not a one-trick phony atleast

It's a westoid's wrong opinion that a voice actor needs "range".

No, they need to be able to ACT.

Is this a complaining about popular seiyuu thread?
I don't like that there's practically no characteristic or memorable voices amongst younger generation male seiyuu, they all sound like the same raspy breathy young ikemen voice like Ono Kensho or whatever.

In OP's defense, Sugita does sound like the type of an actor that just plays himself in every series. The strongest acting I've heard from him was Mushoku Tensei.

In terms of range, the only seiyuu that's impressed me recently was Matsuoka Yoshitsugu.

still can't over how he was able to pull both Depp AND the bathhouse owner IN THE SAME EPISODE! Sugita's talent knows no bound. Even little tadakuni's wooed over!

I can understand where you're coming from with that statement because many of the younger and up and coming voice actors will sound reminiscent of others who are long established in the industry, and perhaps some of that may be the intent in direction. A lot of what you're describing may be because I wouldn't be surprised if there's an attempt to try and find a mainstay replacement for Takahiro Sakurai.
