For sure, it was the same for S1. Frieren was already a popular manga so there was alot of expectations and pressure to get it right.
The director said it was the most stressful thing he's ever done and hasn't felt the same since. The CAD dropped out with illness the week before ep27 aired, she developed adjustment syndrome as the pressure was so much she felt that she couldn't trust anybody but herself to do corrections, even the work done by outsourcing to other studios. So she single handedly did multiple studios worth of corrections and worked herself into illness. She's now quit the industry and had a family

only like 1/3rd of S1 was good though

Why would they? All they can do is adapt the source material.
Most people these day don't even know about which studio is working on an anime unless it's Mappa.
