Kaedegami is exactly like Ichi in its premise, but more interesting, but since Ichi has already gotten popular, it's gonna overshadow Kaedegami. 2 very similar manga in the same magazine is never a good idea. Ichi is also more fujo-friendly which is lucrative nowadays, compared to Kaedegami which is for the male gaze. When given a choice which to axe and which to keep, Saito will choose Ichi over Kaedegami.

IMO Ichi and Kaedegami having similar premises is the reason they complement each other very well. Ichi is a lighthearted manga that takes inspiration from western euro fantasy and makes it "cute", while Kaedegami is following Chinese fantasy which tends to be more "brutal" even after being toned down for PG audiences. These different approaches on a similar premise deliver a full package of fun, edge, cuteness and even a bit of raunchiness that wouldn't be possible with just one manga.

Kaedegami's reception so far has been very positive, not on Ichi's level (because Ichi is being written by a popular veteran), but it's certainly better than every other manga serialized in 2025 and even some old manga. Ichi is "Happy Silly Adventures In Majikland ft. The Primordial Lord of Absolute Destruction". The manga has been about showing cute characters fool around and catch not-pokemon until the edgy villain chooses to end the world while trying to avoid the standard shonen trope of training > beating a bad guy > jobbing to another bad guy > repeat. That's why it's pace is so weird compared to other works in the magazine. Although to be fair Nishi's writing sometimes can be too "slow" if you read the manga every week. They are better suited for binge sessions where you can read them without waiting.
Additionally, one of the reasons Kaedegami feels similar to Ichi (at least IMO) is because the author is taking things relatively slow (for WSJ standards) with more focus on the interactions between the main characters than on introducing the real antagonists and fighting them BUT without wasting time on "side quests" that don't advance the plot or develop the personality of the characters involved (this was one of Ichi's early mistakes, but luckily it was corrected in time).
