Granny's introduction was really underwhelming. They kinda rushed through the scene, and it doesn't give the same first impression as the first chapter does. I hope they establish how powerful she is before the race.

Just setting the stage clearer for why Nagumo avoids her, freeloads off Niikura, and is so shameless about accumulating money. Another great episode. This adaption really is impressive. All the background characters are unique and hand animated. Plus there are tons of little details all over each frame. Given the solid colors art style it's impressive to have such detail throughout.

I'm in agreement with the other anons here that the anime is handling the introductions of the main trio very poorly. Their personalities come across kinda but the plot point of Nagumo not paying rent which is what kicks off her story is missing.

This is almost exactly the opposite of Nichijou, where they reordered the Nano and Hakase chapters to make Nano wanting to go to school part of the progression of the story, when in the manga its out of order.

I know its 13 eps and all, but City just seems like its just easy to cut a lot of shit thats less story critical. I dunno, I feel like there's charm of the main trio kinda get undercut by not being properly introduced to the characters, and CITYs humor works better when youre acquainted with the characters.

Overall I'm a big fan of the anime. CITY is an underrated gem and the anime is genuinely beautiful. I only criticize it because I love the source material very much. I just feels like a very bone headed decision.

Maybe it's because I haven't read the manga and thus have no frame of reference for the differences, but I don't have any issues with the pacing or characters. I feel like Nagumo and Niikura's characters and relationship are clear and developing naturally and Wako's just sort of a weird fast friend type. Niikura even questions why she's there but then they move on cause she's on the same wavelength as them.

i read the manga a while ago and frankly the complaints are pretty nitpicky (and, weirdly enough, they always seem to be no matter what series is being discussed)

the sweetness of ecchan and matsuri's friendship, the struggles of mr bummer and todoroki, the slowburn playful bullying between niikura and nagumo, even the way wako notices things about and interacts with the rest of the cast all feel improved. i trust arawi and ishidate to make changes that make sense

Personally, I think the reason the first couple chapters were skipped is because it could give off the impression that the story is about Nagumo's life working at the restaurant/not paying rent/being a bum when the series actually has a much broader view of the city through the life of all the characters - Ishidate wanted to showcase those characters right off the bat, which is why he worked with Arawi to rewrite it.
I really do wish this series was 2-cour, but I'll take whatever I can get

I disagree. Even though the first chapter focuses on Nagumo, it portrays the daily lives of plenty of other citizens as she passes them. The manga didn't give off the impression that the story was only about her. Even if it did, the chapters are short enough and the episodes are long enough that they could easily fit several introduction chapters into the first episode (which they did, really) and anime watchers would take all those introductions as a package deal. I hate to beat the dead horse, but the more I think about, the more arbitrary the decision seems.
